The space systems group is hiring a Space Software Engineering Manager for its Payload and Ground Eastern Region team. The role suits someone who wants to keep learning new technologies.

The team works on software for space payload and ground systems, and the manager oversees delivery across the whole software lifecycle, from design through maintenance.

This is a full-time management role with a matrixed team, where you lead engineers through both technical work and people decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Give technical oversight across the software lifecycle for software components: design, development, integration and maintenance.
  • Support system integration and test efforts.
  • Lead a matrixed group of software engineers, guiding them on software processes, bachelor's work, career development and performance appraisals.
  • Help write proposals, plan staffing allocations and take part in recruiting.
  • Direct the team in applying the right standards, processes, procedures and tools across the system development lifecycle for programs.
  • Guide the team through Agile delivery: breaking requirements into Agile features, then design, coding, testing, integration and systems test, to deliver more secure capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in computer science, computer engineering or another STEM degree, plus 8 years in a related STEM field; or a master's plus 6 years; or a PhD plus 3 years; or 12 years of experience with no degree.
  • 5 years of progressive software engineering or development experience in C++ or Python.
  • Experience with distributed development of large-scale systems.
  • Thorough understanding of every stage of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience leading a software development team and directing its members.
  • Experience creating Agile roadmaps and plans, and carrying them out.
  • Current DoD Top Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain and hold SCI access.
  • Strong communication and active leadership skills.
  • Preferred: 7 years of progressive software engineering or development experience in C++ or Python.
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience leading a software development team.
  • Preferred: Experience as an IPT lead.
  • Preferred: Experience as a scrum master and/or product owner.
  • Preferred: Experience managing people, including career development and performance.
  • Preferred: Experience managing a budget for technical work.
  • Preferred: Control Account Management experience, managing program schedule and budget data.
  • Preferred: Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
  • Preferred: Strong critical thinking and logical reasoning, with the ability to resolve issues and anticipate programmatic and technical risks.
  • Preferred: Experience with the Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket).
  • Preferred: Experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS and CloudFormation.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar.
  • Preferred: Solid understanding of Kubernetes, including Helm charts, service discovery and autoscaling.
  • Preferred: Current DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI.
