Description

The team is a group of developers who make games for players around the world. The company values inclusivity, growth, innovation, and a sense of safety and trust.

The company believes that a wider range of perspectives makes both the team and its games stronger.

The company is hiring a Lead UI Technical Designer to raise the team's standard and help it improve.

The role owns and develops the in-game UI systems at scale, and drives key UI features alongside designers, artists, producers, and engineers.

The company gives developers room to set their own direction and do their strongest work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, iterate on, and maintain UI systems, including dynamic widgets, responsive menus, and high-fidelity animations, built in Unreal Engine with Blueprint and AngelScript at an expert level.
  • Write and promote UI Blueprint architecture standards and workflows, and lead optimization so UI systems stay consistent, scalable, and fast across platforms.
  • Assess and adopt new tools and technologies that improve experience design across gameplay and other interactive features.
  • Turn UX designs into efficient in-engine builds, making sure UI visuals and behavior work smoothly with core game systems.
  • Set up and strengthen UI material workflows for widgets, producing materials that are scalable, readable, and performant.
  • Work closely with UX designers, UI artists, gameplay engineers, backend developers, and audio teams so UI work matches the gameplay vision and what is technically feasible.
  • Help build a collaborative development culture across the Experience Design department, which includes UX, UI, UITD, and UI Engineering.
  • Mentor technical designers and cross-functional partners, and help grow the Technical UI function, including hiring and onboarding as the team expands.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building, debugging, and optimizing UI systems in UE4 or UE5 with Blueprints and UMG. Knowledge of UI materials, animation systems, and widget architecture is essential.
  • Ability to work through complex technical and design problems and to help shape the XD technical roadmap alongside engineers.
  • Strong understanding of data flow, modularity, and performance in UI systems.
  • Proven ability to lead work independently, make decisions, and take full ownership of complex UI systems.
  • Comfort working in fast-paced settings and changing pipelines, with a willingness to prototype, iterate, and act on feedback.
  • Solid grasp of scripting and programming basics, such as C++ or C.
  • Experience contributing to or leading a UI technical design team.
  • Highly desirable: prior experience shipping high-quality UI in a AAA game.
