Lead Software Engineer

Description

The team builds and maintains the critical infrastructure behind the company's services, across a range of complex projects in a distinctive mission area.

The role is a technical lead position that combines hands-on engineering with guiding the team through technical and delivery problems so that solutions meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

• Own the team's deliverables and work with the Scrum Master to decide the best direction.
• Take part in every stage of the software lifecycle, from gathering requirements and design through to building, testing and releasing.
• Work with product teams, front-end engineers and QA to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Mentor and coach junior developers to build the team's skills and capability.

Requirements

• Experience as a software developer with a strong focus on either backend Java development (Spring Boot, Maven) or frontend development (React, npm).
• Proven experience designing, building and deploying scalable backend systems.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD, containerisation, deployment tools and cloud platforms such as Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker and AWS.
• Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, ideally developed in an agile setting.

• You must be a British national to hold the clearance this role needs.
• You must currently hold the highest level of UK Government security clearance.
