Description

The company is moving quickly to build advanced mobility solutions for government customers, with a start-up style pace and compressed program timelines.

The role leads embedded control algorithm work and software architecture decisions across both vehicle and non-vehicle systems in the company's varied product range.

You will report to the EGM of the Electrical Systems, Controls, and Software (ESCS) team, writing code yourself while also providing technical direction.

You will act as the technical lead for embedded control systems built for the company's customer base, often working on ambiguous problems with little lead time and making decisions with considerable independence.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and deploy custom embedded control systems, including in-house controls such as custom Vehicle Interface Modules, and improve performance across complex electrical architectures.
  • Write and test complex controls in C, MATLAB and Simulink for vehicle and non-vehicle applications.
  • Work with systems integration engineers to bring propulsion, chassis and other control algorithms into existing or new supervisory controls.
  • Tune and calibrate controls to improve overall system performance.
  • Explain, document and defend algorithm design choices to technical leadership.
  • Coach engineers and set best practices for software architecture.
  • Work with technical leads to write and baseline requirements for embedded controls and software.
  • Implement requirements unique to the company's government customers in collaboration with embedded controls teams across the wider organization.
  • Balance internal engineering practices with strict government specifications.
  • Lead software verification and feature validation work.
  • Lead electrical design and peer reviews, and present progress to cross-functional program teams and leadership.
  • Keep up with new simulation and controls methods and bring useful ones into team workflows.

Requirements

  • A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering.
  • Extensive embedded controls experience covering algorithms, software or calibration.
  • 5+ years of experience developing algorithms in C, MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Experience running Agile CI/CD workflows and maintaining automated build environments.
  • Experience with INCA, Vehicle Spy (VSpy), Git and Jenkins.
  • Deep familiarity with data logging tools and file formats.
  • The ability to legally operate a motor vehicle.
  • U.S. Person status: U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee.
  • Preferred: a Master's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Preferred: familiarity with GM's VIP electrical architecture.
  • Preferred: GM Level 2 Driving Certification.
  • Preferred: vehicle development and vehicle build experience.
  • Preferred: GM DFSS Black Belt Certification, or certification in progress.
  • Preferred: defense engineering experience.
  • Preferred: GMD.
