Description

The company is a global product design and technology firm that builds lifestyle products sold through major retailers, online and offline, and through distributors worldwide. It is headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts, employs more than 4,100 people, and has grown quickly by launching product after product across several categories.

The company expects its people to test new ideas, adopt new tools and keep raising what is possible for its customers.

This is a co-op in the company's early talent program for students who want to shape what comes next. You will take on real projects that build your skills, join professional development sessions, community events and networking, and finish by presenting your work to company leaders.

You will work with the hardware UX team to design the user experience for the company's physical products. The work covers on-device interfaces and interaction flows, with a focus on the customer. You will collaborate with industrial design, product and engineering from early concepts through prototyping, testing, documentation, tooling, engineering builds and launch. Projects include brand-new products and existing products adapted for new markets.

Responsibilities

  • Help define the end-to-end user experience, interaction model and on-product interfaces for new hardware products, including the physical UI, displays, controls and feedback through haptics, audio and visuals.
  • Work with industrial design on UI placement, control feel, labeling and ergonomics, and speak up for the user when cost and manufacturing pressures pull the other way.
  • Work with product and engineering colleagues to resolve hardware and technology limits so that each experience is feasible, desirable and viable.
  • Plan and run usability tests on physical prototypes, then turn the findings into practical design changes.
  • Document UI layouts, interaction specs, state diagrams and UI asset packages so firmware and engineering teams can build from them without guesswork.

Requirements

  • You are currently enrolled in a related bachelor's or master's program, or you graduated from one within the past year.
  • You can work full time, 40 hours per week, with 5 days per week onsite in Needham, MA.
  • You have a strong portfolio showing your design work.
  • You design with the user at the center and build experiences that are thoughtful and intuitive.
  • You can use Adobe Creative Suite and Figma with confidence and creativity.
  • You communicate clearly, both visually and verbally, with cross-functional teams.
  • You notice details while keeping the full user journey in view.
  • You do well in a collaborative, fast-moving setting and welcome feedback.
  • You are curious, take initiative and are willing to learn new tools, technologies and processes.
  • Interest in connected consumer products, smart home technology or IoT ecosystems is a plus.

Conditions

This is a full-time co-op running January through June, 40 hours per week.

You will work onsite in Needham, MA 5 days per week and may work remotely on the remaining days.
