The company designs and builds consumer and home products, sold through retailers, online and offline, and through distributors worldwide. It has more than 4,100 staff and is headquartered in Needham, Massachusetts.
The company is building an AI-native way of working and expects its people to test new tools and push what is possible for consumers.
This is a hands-on device firmware role where you write code that ships. You own two areas: product features the company keeps in-house, such as device control and the features that set its products apart, and the shared platform layer that other programs build on, including reference code, hardware abstraction and common device components.
Architecture, interface contracts, HAL boundaries and platform choices are already set. Your job is to build within them, delivering production features plus the reference code and platform parts that show the architecture works for every later program and partner.
Responsibilities
Design, build and debug production firmware for consumer and home appliance products.
Take features from requirements through implementation, unit testing, integration and release support.
Build device control, OTA and differentiated product features.
Follow the architecture, interface and HAL standards, reusing platform components instead of rewriting them.
Implement the defined reference architectures for platform capabilities shared across product categories.
Build and maintain HAL layers, shared drivers and core components for motor control, sensor and actuator integration, and power management.
Build to the defined interface contracts and platform decisions.
Prototype technology options to reduce risk before a program commits.
Join technical design reviews for internal and partner firmware, and review partner code against company standards.
Turn architectural direction into working reference code and features that partners and other programs can use without further interpretation.
Evaluate delivered partner code by hand as part of partner capability assessments.
Write unit tests and keep coverage at the level required for internal and supplier code. Fix static analysis findings so no critical or high-severity issues remain at release.
Build and maintain the CI pipeline, static analysis setup and test harness for the features and platform components you own.
Confirm that the source, toolchain and build manifest deliverables actually rebuild the shipping binary.
Use feature branches, PR-gated merges, ticket-linked commits and commit messages that can generate release notes.
Work under Principal Engineers on platform work and design reviews, taking on wider architectural scope over time.
Bring up firmware on target hardware and resolve hardware-software integration issues with Hardware Engineering.
Work with Systems Engineering and NPD on device-level requirements and integration.
Coordinate with firmware engineers in other regions on continuous improvement.
Requirements
At least 5 years of embedded software and firmware development.
Firmware you have shipped in commercial products.
Experience implementing reference designs, drivers or platform components from interface contracts written by others.
Experience in consumer electronics, home appliances, robotics or similar high-volume products is preferred.
CI/CD, automated testing or build infrastructure for embedded systems is strongly preferred.
Experience reviewing or integrating code from external partners is an advantage.
Strong embedded C, and C++ on resource-constrained platforms.
Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Experience implementing hardware abstraction layers and porting platforms.
Experience with microcontroller peripherals, drivers and low-level hardware interfaces.
Experience with motor control, sensor and actuator integration, and power management.
Git workflows, CI builds with gcc, CMake and headless tooling, unit testing with Ceedling or similar, and static analysis.
Hands-on debugging on target hardware with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG/SWD and trace.
Knowledge of OTA update mechanisms and device security basics.
A bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field is required.
