Description

At Roche you can show up as yourself, embraced for the unique qualities you bring. Our culture encourages personal expression, open dialogue, and genuine connections, where you are valued, accepted and respected for who you are, allowing you to thrive both personally and professionally. This is how we aim to prevent, stop and cure diseases and ensure everyone has access to healthcare today and for generations to come. Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

At Roche, we are advancing science to ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need. Our Scientific Computing and Data Infrastructure team delivers cutting-edge computing environments and shared data services across global locations. We incubate, develop, and support next-generation solutions that empower our Research & Development (R&D) organizations to accelerate discovery.

In this role, you will embed directly within cross-functional product teams to deliver best-in-class scientific computing platforms in close partnership with our scientists and external service providers, bridging modern DevOps practices with life-saving research.

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day operations and maintenance across our High Performance Storage (HPS) platforms and parallel file systems, helping ensure system availability, monitor performance and storage efficiency, and assist with structured change management.
  • Apply a DevOps mindset to platform administration by utilizing automation tools, basic infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD pipelines to build, update, and maintain reliable research environments alongside senior engineers.
  • Partner closely with internal customers and key stakeholders across the entire service lifecycle - from initial inception and architecture design through deployment, steady-state operation, and iterative refinement.
  • Collaborate with researchers to analyze and optimize scientific workflows and batch job submission patterns to maximize cluster utilization and throughput.
  • Proactively identify, propose, and implement enhancements across technical systems, operational workflows, and team collaboration frameworks.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of experience, ideally within a multinational or fast-paced setting (healthcare or life sciences experience is a plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of distributed storage and parallel file systems (e.g., GPFS, Lustre, BeeGFS).
  • Working knowledge of Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Rocky, or Ubuntu) and core command-line troubleshooting.
  • Practical ability to write Bash scripts and basic Python for system automation; routine experience using Git.
  • Hands-on exposure to at least one configuration or automation tool (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) and basic CI/CD concepts.
  • Familiarity with HPC environments, batch job execution, or workload schedulers (e.g., Slurm, LSF).
  • English Fluency.
  • Experience with monitoring systems (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, Nagios).
  • RDT2026
