Software Engineer

Description

The company is modernising and connecting scientific and data systems across Research and Early Development, using advances in AI, data and computational sciences to speed up drug discovery and development.

You will work in the Solutions team in Welwyn, part of the Computational Sciences Center of Excellence within the Data and Digital Catalyst organisation. The team builds scalable applications, agents and data pipelines that support scientists, enable AI and ML work, and help bring new medicines forward.

Responsibilities

• Build reliable scientific software, data flows and pipelines for areas such as Research Biology, Drug Discovery and Translational Medicine.
• Apply Open Source, Cloud-First, API-First and AI-First approaches to complex problems.
• Grow your software engineering skills by building scalable data systems with microservices, event-driven design and layered architecture.
• Work closely with scientists, Data Engineers, Product Leaders and Tech/ML Ops to keep systems interoperable and well integrated.
• Combine diverse datasets to support AI/ML use cases, search and data visualisation.

Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science or a similar technical field, with software engineering experience.
• Full stack experience, on the front end, the back end or both.
• Exposure to databases, APIs and cloud-native architectures.
• A record of designing reliable, scalable, performant and secure data applications.
• Strong communication skills and a drive for technical and product quality.
• Preferred: domain knowledge in biology, chemistry, drug discovery or translational medicine.
• Preferred: experience with AI/ML integration and model deployment.
• Preferred: a commitment to building usable products that meet user needs.
