Sign Up to ReadThe NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) supplies clean drinking water, collects and treats wastewater, and works to cut air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. It is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the United States, with nearly 6,000 staff. Every day it delivers over 1.1 billion gallons of drinking water to 8.5 million New York City residents and over 1 million people in Upstate New York, and its wastewater system can handle more than 1.3 billion gallons per day.
The city's water and sewer network includes about 140,000 catch basins, 114,000 hydrants, 90,000 valves, 14 gatehouses, 3 reservoirs, 68 groundwater wells, a 100 million gallon underground storage tank, and 7,000 miles each of sanitary sewers and water mains. The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) maintains these systems.
The IPS Analysis Unit sits within the Division of Operations Analysis and Regulatory Compliance in BWSO. The unit works closely with bureau senior management and technical staff. It tracks and reports on bureau productivity and analyzes and shares collected data for operations, asset management, and financial planning.
The team is hiring an Associate Project Manager (Level 2) as Supervisor, requisition 22427. You will lead staff who check and standardize operational records kept in IPS (Infor Public Sector), the agency's system of record. You will oversee research, analysis, system support and maintenance, and KPI development on the performance of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. Field Operations, Distribution Operations, Capital Planning, and Executive Management rely on this data for daily business processes and decisions, so accuracy matters.
You will also build and support mobile technology applications for key mandates, including the Targeted Sewer Inspection Program, the MS4 Permit and Stormwater Management Program, and the following City Council laws: Law 17 of 2026, which requires annual reporting on inspections of over 154,000 DEP-owned catch basins, and Law 112 of 2018, which requires annual reporting on inspections of nearly 110,000 DEP-owned hydrants.
Appointments are subject to OMB approval.
The position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible under the 55-a Program and meet the education and experience requirements, and also to non 55-a Program candidates who meet those same requirements.
The company is an equal opportunity employer that prohibits discrimination and harassment based on any legally protected status or characteristic.
