Description

The company runs two infrastructure estates after a recent acquisition and is moving the acquired product's infrastructure onto its own platform.

The team is small and high-trust, and engineers own work from design through production.

This SRE role is the first point of contact for everything the team receives, with the goal of reducing the operational load over time.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming requests and interruptions, close the quick ones, and convert the rest into planned work with the team.
  • Run the acquired product's infrastructure day to day during the migration.
  • Help migrate that infrastructure onto the company's platform and automate the repeatable steps.
  • Replace recurring requests with self-service tooling, automation, or documentation.
  • Join the on-call rotation for the services the team owns.
  • Work closely with product engineering and the wider SRE team.
  • Improve the Kubernetes and cloud environments.
  • Extend observability with Grafana, Prometheus, and Datadog so the acquired product's estate is monitored, while keeping the stack lean.

Requirements

  • Fluent written and spoken English, since the team works in English across several countries.
  • Clear, asynchronous communication, including saying when something will be handled later.
  • Ability to switch context often and stay organised.
  • Comfort learning unfamiliar systems and working out how they behave.
  • An automation-first approach to daily operations.
  • Infrastructure managed as code and kept in git.
  • Programming skill in at least one language, or willingness to learn.
  • A preference for simple solutions over complex ones.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and work through problems with others.
  • Decisions backed by data, including gathering that data yourself when it is missing.
  • Strong ownership of what you build.
  • Comfort with shifting priorities, goals, and deadlines, and willingness to challenge the status quo.

Conditions

Tech stack: Node.js and Go for backend, React and TypeScript for frontend, GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform, and Postgres. Specific tools are not a hiring requirement.

Candidates who are missing some of the listed experience but want to learn are encouraged to apply.

The company welcomes applicants from all backgrounds.
