Description

The company is a news organisation with reporters in nearly 160 countries. T Brand is a team of editors, designers, strategists and others who create branded content for the company's advertisers.

The work takes many forms, including articles, documentary videos, animations, photo essays, social posts, podcasts, data visualisations, event activations and newsroom sponsorships.

This junior role sits on the Studio's web engineering side. You will help build front-end work for the company's paid content products, its flex ad suite and custom interactive apps, learning from senior engineers and your manager.

Responsibilities

  • Ship features with modern tools and frameworks such as React and Astro, with an eye on product function and speed.
  • Use CSS and animation libraries such as GSAP to build smooth motion and interactive visuals.
  • Work under technical guidance on front-end code for advertising templates and interactive single-page applications.
  • Write modular, reusable HTML, JavaScript or TypeScript, and SASS that follows the team's standards, patterns and best practices.
  • Join code reviews, take in feedback and apply the team's design principles to raise code quality.
  • Learn from Web Engineers, Senior Web Engineers and Lead Engineers through team learning projects.
  • Turn mockups and requirements from design, product and editorial into working web experiences.
  • Help with performance, cross-browser support and accessibility across everything you build.
  • Help reduce technical debt, fix bugs, and keep project notes and detailed tickets, for example in Jira, up to date.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows and modern developer tools to speed up your coding.
  • Manage repositories, branches and collaborative reviews in Git and GitHub.
  • Respect journalistic independence in your work and the company's aim of seeking the truth and helping people understand the world.

Requirements

  • You have at least 2 years of front-end web development experience.
  • You know HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript (ES6+) and basic TypeScript.
  • You are keen to pick up Astro and Svelte, even if you have not used them yet.
  • You understand responsive design, cross-browser compatibility and web accessibility standards.
  • You have basic experience with Git version control.
  • You debug and troubleshoot front-end code with care for detail.
  • You communicate clearly and work well with designers and project managers.
  • You must include a digital portfolio, as applications without one will not be considered.
  • Preferred: experience with GreenSock (GSAP) or CSS animation techniques.
  • Preferred: exposure to Google Ad Manager (GAM) or ad technology integration patterns.

Conditions
