Forward Deployed Engineer - AVP

Description

The company is building an applied AI and agents group that turns advanced AI capabilities into production-ready solutions.

You will work with business and technology teams to take agent ideas from first concept to live deployment.

The work goes beyond conversational tools: agents that reason, plan and carry out multi-step workflows, with integration into enterprise systems and secure, consistent behaviour in production.

The group is hands-on and focused on fast delivery, and it builds reusable tools and engineering practices that support AI adoption across the company.

The role is a full-time, agile, hands-on software engineering position embedded in Line of Business pods, focused on agent features, evaluation testbeds, prompt and parser optimisation, and automated testing to keep production AI agents accurate, safe and reliable.

Responsibilities

• Build and iterate on agent features, prompt templates, system instructions, few-shot examples and data pre-processing scripts, working under senior guidance.
• Build, calibrate and run automated evaluation suites in enterprise evaluation studios and frameworks, measuring task completion, tool call correctness, semantic similarity, latency and hallucination.
• Create, version and maintain domain-specific golden datasets, synthetic benchmarks and edge-case regression sets with Line of Business domain experts.
• Write and maintain automated test scripts in enterprise CI/CD pipelines, enforcing continuous evaluation gates before staging and production releases.
• Test AI guardrails, including prompt injection defences, toxicity filters and PII redaction, across agent inputs and outputs.
• Track agent performance, log evaluations and write diagnostic reports that help squad leads and business stakeholders tune agent behaviour.
• Take on more autonomy over time in fast-paced agile squads, contributing to sprint planning, standups and codebase upkeep.
• Assess risk in business decisions with care for the firm's reputation and for the company, its clients and assets. Drive compliance with laws, rules, regulations and Policy, apply sound ethical judgement, and escalate, manage and report control issues openly.

Requirements

• 3, 5 years of relevant software engineering experience, or 1, 2+ years with a focus on Python, Java or Go and generative AI application development.
• Solid proficiency in Python, Java or Go, with hands-on work integrating REST or gRPC APIs, Docker containers and Git.
• Working knowledge of generative AI concepts, prompt engineering and evaluation methods such as semantic similarity, LLM-as-a-judge and benchmark suites.
• Experience with automated test pipelines and CI/CD tools such as Tekton, Jenkins, GitHub Actions or Harness.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with a methodical, detail-focused approach to software quality and data integrity.
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, data science or a related quantitative field.

Conditions

Full-time role based in London, with a hybrid model of up to 2 days working from home per week.
