Description

The Data Center Engineering team works on 3D-NAND and SSD technology, including QLC NAND flash products, at a company that is a global leader in semiconductors.

This role joins a multi-team effort to bring up a new platform with simulators for solid state drives. You will build on your skills in embedded architecture, external interfaces and product constraints.

You will coordinate technical and tactical work across simulation, firmware and hardware teams, and set a clear technical vision and roadmap. Strong technical and communication skills are needed, along with the ability to work with several teams locally and across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system architecture and technical solution work across firmware, ASIC, hardware, simulation and infrastructure.
  • Design and assess end-to-end systems, weighing tradeoffs and implementation options for new product features.
  • Turn customer and product requirements into technical solutions, and push for clarification of requirements when needed.
  • Write technical specifications, architecture documents, design proposals and implementation plans.
  • Build prototypes, proofs of concept, simulation models and software components to test solution ideas.
  • Write and review C/C++ firmware and software, including design, implementation and debugging.
  • Use simulators, development platforms and hardware prototypes to characterize, debug and validate system behavior.
  • Spot technical risks, lead root-cause investigations and create mitigation plans across the product lifecycle.
  • Work with architecture, firmware, hardware and ASIC teams so solutions are producible, scalable and match product requirements.
  • Shape technical priorities, milestones and execution plans through engineering leadership and expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • 7+ years of hands-on architecture and design experience.
  • 7+ years of experience with embedded systems.
  • 7+ years of experience with simulators.
  • 7+ years of technical planning, grooming, estimation and risk management.
  • 7+ years of requirements definition, clarification and technical assessment.
  • 7+ years of work in a Linux environment.
  • 7+ years with firmware and software development environments, including compilers, debuggers, emulators and toolchains.
  • 7+ years working with hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI and UART.
  • These skills may come from coursework, research, jobs or internships.
  • Preferred: experience with simulators for embedded systems.
  • Preferred: software programming skills.
  • Preferred: experience in the storage industry, with SSDs or enterprise storage.
  • Preferred: embedded development using hardware and firmware tools.
  • Preferred: experience with Docker and Ansible.
  • Preferred: experience with RTOS.
  • Preferred: structured development practices, analytical problem solving, innovation and a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Preferred: knowledge of enterprise storage interface protocols such as SATA, SAS, PCIe and NVMe.
  • Preferred: knowledge of SSD or enterprise storage security protocols and techniques such as Opal, ESSC and AES.
  • Preferred: experience with software and firmware workflows, including continuous integration validation.
  • Preferred: experience with DevOps processes and tools, from code check-in through continuous integration and delivery.
  • Preferred: experience writing unit tests for code coverage and quality validation.
