Firmware Engineer

The role sits within a regulated environment governed by ISO 62304 and involves work with the V&V team, product owners, architects, and electrical, mechanical, physics, systems, software and marketing colleagues.

The work is fast-paced and centres on building safe, reliable platforms, components and products while meeting schedule commitments.

Your work is organised in a SCRUM-like cycle with a cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

• Write object-oriented embedded software in C++ for VxWorks RTOS or Embedded Linux, including analysing, designing, programming, debugging and modifying firmware.
• Work with product owners and stakeholders to define embedded software requirements, and with architects to design solutions.
• Integrate control software with electrical and mechanical hardware and application software to achieve coordinated sensing and motion control.
• Take part in architecture, design and code reviews, unit testing, debugging and system troubleshooting to protect software quality and the safety, performance and reliability of integrated systems.
• Help the V&V team find and fix software and hardware faults.
• Investigate non-conformances and complaints, identify root causes and set corrective actions.
• Estimate and plan development work with the team, and keep those plans current.
• Write technical documents such as requirements, design descriptions, test methods, test reports and approval documentation.
• Support external customers during end-use, service, installation and commissioning when needed.
• Handle complaints and correct firmware issues.
• Report progress to management.
• Work through complex problems that require in-depth evaluation of many variable factors.

Requirements

• Experience programming embedded firmware in C or C++.
• Experience troubleshooting embedded code.
• Ability to develop and refine requirements with teams across electrical, mechanical, software and marketing.

Conditions

The base pay range is $133,740 to $183,887.

Starting pay within this range depends on factors such as geography or market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications.

Commission eligibility, if applicable, follows the company's plan and is based on individual and/or company performance.
