Description

This role leads the work that brings new technologies and capabilities into both new and existing medical robotics products, with the patient at the center of each decision.

You will guide cross-functional teams that build new solutions for significant patient needs that are not yet met.

The role covers strategy, design, development, documentation and verification for new and derivative robotic platforms, flexible medical instruments and system accessories.

You report to the Senior Director and manage several managers and their engineers across multiple teams.

Success requires a proven people leader with deep, patient-focused product definition skills and engineering expertise in medical robotics and instrumentation, plus prior experience taking medical technologies from early concept to product readiness.

The team works in a high-energy, focused environment with a strong commitment to quality.

Responsibilities

  • Set a long-term technical product vision that matches team goals to business priorities.
  • Direct hardware, software and systems development across several programs at the same time, including early-stage new product introduction, supply chain and test engineering.
  • Own and lead multiple product development teams from early de-risking through development and business validation of priority opportunities, covering resource alignment, goal setting and tracking, career growth, performance management, hiring, budgeting and spending.
  • Set the direction for hardware and software engineers on how to meet and verify design requirements, and make sure design outputs fit together into working system designs across programs.
  • Define performance expectations and keep communication clear at every team level.
  • Anticipate roadblocks and break down silos so priorities move forward smoothly.
  • Represent program status with key customer collaborators outside the company and with internal stakeholders.
  • Give senior leadership regular updates through both informal conversations and formal meetings.
  • Serve on the leadership team of Future Forward Growth Opportunities.

Requirements

  • Show successful experience bringing a hospital-based medical technology from identifying the customer need through to launch.
  • Show proven technical and tactical leadership of staff and peers in a startup-style medical technology group within a larger organization.
  • Show a proven ability to hold a program-level vision while driving the tactics to reach it, including leading a complex, high-visibility, high-impact project with several sub-teams.
  • Show a track record of engaging key stakeholders and finding ways to use technology to address opportunities and challenges.
  • Show strong communication within your team and with key opinion leaders (KOLs), regulatory authorities and customers.
  • Show experience developing and leading a team of highly capable technical professionals.
  • Show strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Helpful: Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering, science or a healthcare-related field.
  • Helpful: 15+ years of relevant progressive people and operations leadership experience.
  • Helpful: Experience leading medical technology projects from inception through field validation to launch, with a solid grasp of the medical product ecosystem and services.
  • Helpful: Proven skill in quantitative analysis and data-driven decision making.
  • Helpful: Experience with intellectual property fundamentals.
  • Helpful: Ability to relate to people at all levels of an organization.
  • Helpful: Willingness to travel, about 20%, with some international trips.

Travel is about 20%, with some international trips.

The company or its customers may require proof of current vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19, and requirements can vary by role.

Some roles are subject to U.S. export controls under 15 CFR §743.13(b), so candidates may be asked for information that determines whether an export license or a Technology Control Plan (TCP) is needed; licensing can take 3 to 6+ months and a TCP typically adds about 2 weeks.

For export-controlled roles, any offer depends on an approved export license and/or an executed TCP before the start date, within a timeframe that does not unreasonably delay hiring.

Candidates with arrest or conviction records are considered in line with applicable fair chance laws.

Preference goes to qualified candidates who do not live, and do not plan to live, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Tennessee.

The job level may differ from the one listed, depending on business need and the selected candidate's experience, knowledge and skills.

Pay is based mainly on the job level the role is filled at and the candidate's qualifications, as allowed by law.
