Description

The company is a Fortune 500 AI platform for managing people, money, and agents.

Product Engineering builds the end-to-end product experiences customers use. Many of these now run on agents and AI, which rely on a solid API foundation.

This role sits in Product Engineering but spans product pillars. You will work with Product Engineering teams and partner organizations to define the API foundation, architecture, and operating model that help teams build agent-ready, high-quality APIs.

As a Software Development Engineer, you will help build and maintain the APIs and backend services on the critical path for company products and agentic experiences. You will use TypeScript or Python and internal company frameworks to build scalable, resilient distributed systems and strong internal developer experiences.

Your work will shape how quickly the company can build, deploy, and iterate on agent-driven capabilities for customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain product APIs and backend services.
  • Implement API behavior covering routing, validation, authentication and authorization, transformation, and error handling.
  • Contribute to high-throughput, low-latency components and integrations with a focus on resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.
  • Apply API contract and governance practices using OpenAPI, Swagger, and internal standards.
  • Build and improve frameworks and tooling that Product Engineering teams use to define, publish, and maintain REST, SOAP, Graph, and other APIs.
  • Use metrics, tracing, and logging to understand production behavior and drive performance and reliability gains.
  • Write clean, well-documented, testable code, and contribute unit, integration, and contract tests.
  • Take part in design and code reviews, and share knowledge through documentation, talks, and mentoring.
  • Own small to medium services or API areas end to end, from design and build through rollout, monitoring, and support.
  • Work with partner teams across code services and agent development.

Requirements

  • Basic Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience building scalable backend services or platforms.
  • At least 3 years of experience with TypeScript, Python, or similar languages.
  • At least 2 years of experience with web service and API technologies such as REST, SOAP, JSON, XML Schema, WSDL, and GraphQL.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Other Qualifications
  • Proven use of modern AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot to speed up quality delivery.
  • Strong algorithmic thinking, including hash maps, trees, graph traversal, and caching, applied to routing, query planning, or data transformation.
  • Working knowledge of distributed systems: concurrency and multithreading, horizontal scaling, high availability, and fault tolerance.
  • Understanding of common API gateway duties: routing, validation, authentication, throttling and rate limiting, transformation, and security policies.
  • Experience with API specifications and their lifecycle, including OpenAPI, Swagger, versioning, and documentation.
  • Solid grasp of unit, integration, contract, and performance testing, and tools such as JUnit, ScalaTest, Postman, Mockito, and coverage tools.
  • Experience with source control and dev tooling such as Git, GitHub, Gradle, CI, debugging, and profiling.
  • Exposure to cloud development, for example AWS or Kubernetes, is a plus.
  • Familiarity with MCP or similar integration models is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach, comfortable working across time zones.
  • Interest in agentic AI and in building APIs that power AI-driven workflows.
