Description

You will manage engineering delivery for a safety-critical Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, covering its maintenance, development and evolution.

You will coordinate the work of about 20 professionals, focusing on system reliability, new features and better product performance for current and future customer needs.

You are the engineering delivery contact for customers and segments. You make sure each successive product or solution version is delivered on the agreed needs, quality standards and commitments.

You set the overall delivery strategy and master schedule, align initiative owners and stakeholders, and keep progress, priorities, risks and corrective actions moving across the engineering lifecycle.

The company is a global technology group. Its Romanian site does software engineering and R&D, including air traffic management systems, maritime security, satellite solutions and identity technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Be the main engineering delivery contact for customers and segment stakeholders, building trust and keeping expectations clear.
  • Coordinate with Initiative Owners, Business Managers, Solution Management and engineering teams, and share one delivery vision and strategy.
  • Set the global delivery strategy, multi-version roadmap and master schedule, turning customer needs into requirements and a coherent development approach.
  • Run delivery of successive versions to customers and segments, including the process, milestones, dependencies and commitments.
  • Set priorities across versions and with Initiative Owners, and make the call when trade-offs or uncertainty come up.
  • Oversee engineering work across the lifecycle, including development planning, technical debt, co-contracting and subcontracting.
  • Track delivery progress for the program using dedicated KPIs and the consolidated multi-version backlog, and report on it.
  • Find and handle risks, opportunities and schedule slips, ask for root-cause analyses and drive corrective actions.
  • Check that engineering outputs and proposed solutions meet customer needs and quality, covering requirements, operational concepts and architecture.
  • Plan the rollout of new processes and engineering practices within project constraints and delivery priorities.
  • Encourage cross-team collaboration and improvement, and with Solution Management lead focused deep dives on critical topics, such as the engineering environment, when needed.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in engineering, computer science or a related university discipline.
  • 7+ years in engineering management, technical or IT project management, or software engineering management.
  • A record of leading technical teams in complex settings, engaging stakeholders and building collaborative ways of working.
  • A customer-focused, persuasive communicator who judges well, including when the situation is uncertain.
  • A commitment to continuous improvement, team development and engineering excellence.
  • Experience managing the engineering lifecycle, delivery planning, scheduling and multi-version coordination.
  • The ability to review and challenge customer needs, operational concept documents (OCD), requirements and architecture decisions.
  • Skill in managing risk and opportunity, delivery KPIs and root-cause analysis, and in following up corrective actions.
  • Skill in influencing stakeholders, setting priorities, making decisions and working across functions.
  • Nice to have: domain, product or project knowledge, to be defined by the hiring manager and Talent Acquisition.

Conditions

The reporting line, location, role scope and domain requirements are to be confirmed by the hiring manager.

Benefits

  • Room to grow across the company's domains, products, customers and sites, on either a technical expert track or a leadership track, including international moves.
