Description

The company's aeronautics systems business has an opening for an Engineer or Principal Engineer, Systems, in its Systems Engineering group. The role is onsite in Melbourne, FL.

You would join the Ground Systems team as a systems engineer, owning end-to-end verification of subsystem requirements that link higher-level system requirements to lower-level software and test requirements.

The team keeps its requirements in DOORS, automates reporting with DXL, and uses Jira and Confluence to query user stories, track work and share status with stakeholders. The work covers design reviews, change control and verification planning.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain two-way traces between higher-level and lower-level requirements in DOORS, including interfaces and test cases.
  • Set up and run DOORS modules, attributes, link modules, link rules, views and baselines so the data stays accurate and consistent.
  • Assess the impact of each change, find orphan, conflicting or duplicate requirements, and work with owners to resolve them.
  • Produce and share coverage metrics such as forward and backward trace coverage and verification readiness, along with stakeholder dashboards.
  • Prepare trace reports, audit evidence and DOORS exports for design and gate reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR and TRR.
  • Connect DOORS and Jira workflows by querying user stories, maintaining filters and boards, and aligning epics and stories with requirements.
  • Record processes, decisions and status in Confluence, including traceability guides, conventions and data dictionaries.
  • Work with systems, software, test and operations colleagues to break down requirements, set acceptance criteria and plan verification.
  • Manage configuration and change control, baselining and requirement versioning, and promote good requirements engineering practice.
  • Define verification methods and acceptance criteria for each requirement, and schedule verification work to match program milestones so every requirement can be verified and closed.
  • Write and publish verification material, including verification matrices, requirement-to-test maps, status dashboards and audit-ready evidence for design reviews, TRRs and customer audits.
  • Run verification for Ground Systems: track status per requirement, coordinate with test and analysis teams, close gaps and discrepancies, and report readiness and progress to program leadership.
  • Present technical approaches and findings clearly at technical reviews, program reviews and boards.
  • Apply deep technical skill and creative thinking to complex technical problems.

Requirements

  • Engineer (Level 2): a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 2 years of related professional or military experience in Systems Engineering, or a Master's degree with 0 years of related experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Principal Engineer (Level 3): a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field with 5 years of related professional or military experience in Systems Engineering, or a Master's degree with 3 years of related experience, or a Ph.D. with 1 year of related experience in Systems Engineering.
  • Active US Government Secret clearance or higher, with a background investigation completed in the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance and any program access the role requires, within a reasonable period the company sets.
  • Experience decomposing and managing requirements.
  • Preferred: knowledge of DOORS for requirement management.
  • Preferred: demonstrated communication and technical writing skills.
  • Preferred: proven ability to brief technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Preferred: experience with requirement verification.
