Description

The company's Space Systems sector is hiring a Cyber Systems Engineer, Level 4, based in Chandler, Arizona.

You would act as a senior technical lead, setting and checking the security posture of a complex missile or weapon system across its full life.

The work blends systems engineering with systems security engineering, cybersecurity, Anti-Tamper, exportability, Program Protection and supply-chain risk management.

You would turn customer and product needs into secure, integrated solutions weighed against performance, cost, schedule, risk, supportability and lifecycle limits, while guiding design reviews and mentoring engineers.

The role involves regular contact with program leaders, customers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior technical authority for SSE, cybersecurity, AT, exportability, supply-chain risk and Program Protection across a major missile or weapon program.
  • Build and maintain the system security architecture, technical strategy, implementation roadmap and security engineering approach from concept through disposal.
  • Lead the identification, assessment and classification of Critical Program Information and critical components.
  • Run technical planning, integration, requirements analysis and allocation, interface definition, functional and timeline analysis, trade studies, risk analysis, and verification and validation for total system solutions.
  • Turn customer, mission and product requirements into hardware, firmware and software specifications.
  • Lead security trade studies that weigh protection, mission performance, cost, schedule, technical maturity, exportability and residual risk.
  • Assess advanced threats, vulnerabilities and security risks, then recommend how to respond to them.
  • Write, review and coordinate key security documents: Program Protection Plan, System Security Plan, Security Classification Guide, Anti-Tamper Plan, exportability assessments, supply-chain risk assessments, requirements compliance matrices and related material.
  • Define, allocate and trace security requirements across system, subsystem, hardware, firmware, software and supplier elements.
  • Oversee technical and nontechnical security controls from design through disposal.
  • Evaluate hardware, firmware, software, interfaces and supply-chain elements for secure operation, compliance and exposure to capable adversaries.
  • Keep security work aligned with contract terms, government direction, and US Government and NIST guidance, including NIST SP 800-160 and the Risk Management Framework.
  • Lead or support security verification and validation, technical reviews, security testing, certification and authorization, risk acceptance records and closure of technical findings.
  • Measure how well security requirements and countermeasures work, using analysis, inspection, demonstration and test evidence.
  • Lead the security content for major program and design reviews, and brief program leaders and customers on security posture, residual risk, technical issues and mitigation.
  • Work with systems engineering, software, hardware, test, safety, specialty engineering, supply chain, program management and security teams.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers through technical direction, training, work reviews and career development support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field plus 8 years of professional experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years, or a PhD plus 4 years.
  • Experience applying systems engineering to complex systems across several lifecycle stages.
  • Experience with system security architecture, security requirements development and allocation, risk assessment, countermeasure definition and verification planning.
  • Demonstrated Anti-Tamper design or implementation that protects Critical Program Information on classified US Government programs.
  • Working knowledge of US Government and NIST security engineering processes and frameworks, such as US Government Anti-Tamper guidance, NIST SP 800-160 and the Risk Management Framework.
  • Experience assessing embedded hardware, firmware, software, interfaces or system components for compliance and secure operation.
  • Ability to lead technical work, explain complex security matters, and work with program leaders, customers and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Good skills in writing and speaking clearly, leading technical work and mentoring.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting complex embedded missile, weapon or High Assurance Device development programs.
  • Preferred: Experience developing or leading system security architecture across the full lifecycle.
  • Preferred: Experience writing or leading Program Protection Plans, Security Classification Guides, Anti-Tamper Plans, exportability assessments, supply-chain risk assessments, System Security Plans or similar program security documents.
  • Preferred: Experience with requirements management, bidirectional traceability, interface definition, security compliance matrices and model-based systems engineering.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of threat modeling, advanced adversary capabilities, reverse-engineering threats and countermeasures, hardware assurance, firmware security, tamper resistance and security verification and validation.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting security certification, authorization, compliance assessments, technical evaluations or government security reviews.
  • Preferred: Experience leading cross-functional trade studies and risk assessments that weigh cost, schedule, performance and security decisions.
  • Preferred: Experience directing or mentoring SSE, AT, cybersecurity, hardware, firmware or software engineering staff.
  • Preferred: Ability to explain system security posture, technical risk and mitigation recommendations to senior leaders and government customers.
