Sr Staff Engineer Signal Processing

Description

The team builds signal processing solutions for signals intelligence (SIGINT) and contributes to national security initiatives. The role is a senior staff engineering position based in Sacramento, California.

You get professional development, mentoring from senior engineers, and hands-on access to tools such as Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Software-Defined Radios (SDRs) and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for deploying advanced signal processing algorithms.

Responsibilities

• Carry out architecture trades, design analysis, and performance modeling.
• Provide engineering support for hardware development.
• Design detection and characterization algorithms for radio frequency communication signals.
• Implement those detection and characterization algorithms.
• Design, test, and produce detection, characterization, and geolocation algorithms.
• Test signal processing algorithms and receivers in a lab.
• Help deploy core products onto new platforms such as manned aircraft, drones, and ships.

Requirements

• A BS in a STEM field with 14 years of relevant experience, an MS in a STEM field with 12 years, or a PhD with 10 years.
• Convert complex operational needs into technical system requirements.
• Command of tactical SIGINT operations, military capabilities, and geolocation concepts.
• Expertise in modulation and demodulation, FFT and spectral analysis, FIR and IIR filtering, resampling, channelization, and detection and estimation theory.
• Experience with software defined radios, RF front ends, IQ data, geolocation methods (DF and beamforming), and signal characterization.
• Command of core communications systems engineering concepts from your electrical engineering degree, used to analyze, set requirements for, and implement signal processing algorithms.
• Active Top Secret clearance with SCI.
• Preferred: CUDA or GPU programming experience, which is increasingly critical for real-time performance in SIGINT signal chains.
• Preferred: Agile software development and containerization with Docker or Kubernetes for deploying SIGINT applications.
• Preferred: familiarity with X-MIDAS, MATLAB/Simulink, and Linux-based toolchains.
• Preferred: experience with the Atlassian tools Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
• Preferred: practical experience or coursework in C++, Rust, or Python.
• Preferred: experience simulating and processing RF communications in GNU Radio.

Conditions

Based in Sacramento, California, with travel at 10% of the time.

Relocation assistance may be available.

No clearance is needed to start, but you must be able and willing to obtain a Top Secret clearance with SCI for continued long-term employment.

Base salary range is $212,100.00 to $318,100.00 as a general guideline, set by scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
