Engineering Manager II, Runtime Services

The team is new, so you will help shape its strategy, charter and way of working from the start.

Responsibilities

• Set the strategy, charter and operating model for a new team that owns two major platforms: a large-scale asynchronous job scheduling and execution platform, and an anomaly detection, root-cause analysis and ML monitoring platform.
• Own the technical roadmap for both platforms, pushing forward automation, self-service onboarding, resource efficiency and reliability.
• Partner with teams across the company to understand their needs, drive adoption, and deliver measurable gains in developer productivity and data-driven decision-making.
• Raise operational standards on both platforms by improving observability, incident response, service health, documentation and engineering practices.
• Hire, coach and develop a strong team, and build a culture of ownership, learning and continuous improvement.
• Use AI to speed up planning, technical exploration, documentation and operational analysis. You will check its output for accuracy and quality before relying on it. AI may also be used for user onboarding and routine evaluation of ongoing work.

Requirements

• At least 9 years of software engineering experience, with deep expertise in distributed platforms, solid backend knowledge, and interest in anomaly detection algorithms.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience leading platform and backend teams that run highly available systems.
• Strong grounding in platform reliability, observability, Kubernetes or cloud infrastructure, data systems and developer experience.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous execution and workflow orchestration, plus a real interest in machine learning algorithms.
• Track record of setting technical strategy and delivering meaningful gains in scalability, operational efficiency, customer adoption or engineering velocity.
• Ability to lead work across multiple platforms and collaborate well with cross-functional partners.
• Clear communicator with sound technical judgment and a people-focused approach to leadership.
• Experience using AI to speed up engineering planning, analysis and execution, with a clear method for checking accuracy, quality and security.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Conditions

Base salary range is $208,592 - $429,454 USD. Final pay depends on factors such as location, travel, relevant prior experience and specific skills.

The role is eligible for equity.

Open only to applicants based in the US.

Not eligible for relocation assistance.

Hybrid role: in-person collaboration in the office 1-2 times per quarter, and the role can be based anywhere in the country.
