Senior Infrastructure Engineer

The company builds next-generation space stations and related infrastructure using an incremental, hardware-heavy, low-cost method.

Its multi-module station is meant to keep people in space continuously for America and its allies, supporting microgravity research, manufacturing and a commercial space economy for government, corporate and private customers.

Its 2025 demonstration flight succeeded, making it the only operational commercial space station company to have flown and run its own spacecraft. The first station is due to launch in 2027 as the world's first commercial space station, with more modules to follow.

A new high-power satellite line will reuse station components and lessons from that demonstration.

Based in Long Beach, California, the company has more than 1,000 staff, over $1 billion in private capital and the facilities to build and run the next American station. Future plans include habitats for the Moon and Mars, stations for government partners, and other crewed systems.

This role supports the systems needed to design and build human-rated space stations. You will report to the Manager, IT Infrastructure, and help build a modern, cloud-first IT infrastructure from scratch, testing and adopting current technologies.

Responsibilities

• Lead infrastructure projects end to end: set the roadmap and pace, split work into milestones and tasks, and coordinate the team.
• Design, build and run complex systems on AWS, Kubernetes and Linux and Windows servers that are highly available, secure and cost efficient, working mostly on your own.
• Write solid infrastructure as code and automation that makes systems more reliable and simpler to maintain.
• Support your systems with fast response to incidents, and find root causes so problems do not come back.

Requirements

• 5+ years designing, deploying and managing enterprise IT infrastructure.
• Strong skills in public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform, GitOps, Ansible and/or Puppet.
• Broad IT knowledge to join infrastructure with networking, security, DevOps and software development.
• Preferred: experience with self-hosted AI systems, AI agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) platforms.
• Preferred: experience writing Lambdas and scripts that automate setup and recurring tasks.
• Preferred: understanding of networking protocols and infrastructure such as BGP, VPNs, DNS and DHCP.
• Preferred: experience with ITAR, NIST, FIPS and FedRAMP compliant systems.
• Preferred: clear written and spoken communication, including explaining technical ideas to non-specialists and gathering requirements from cross-functional partners.

Conditions

Full-time, exempt position in Long Beach.

Base salary of $146,000 to $208,000 USD.

Base pay depends on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs and market demand.

Level and pay are set by the selected candidate's experience and demonstrated ability; applicants at a range of experience levels are welcome.

Willingness to work overtime or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
