The team in Baltimore, MD is hiring a Principal Modeling Simulation and Analysis Systems Engineer. The role sits in the Modeling, Simulation and Analysis Section and works with the wider systems engineering group on radar and mission work. The position is fully on-site.
Relocation assistance may be available. A Secret clearance is required before start. Travel is 10% of the time.
Responsibilities
Speed up delivery of capabilities through performance engineering, software integration, mission studies, system-of-system trades and test work built on modeling, simulation, experimentation and analysis.
Apply these methods mainly to system and software performance and Mission Engineering across the radar lifecycle and mission operations, assessing, validating and optimizing system, subsystem and mission performance.
Work with IQ data from simulated and real collections, tracing it through the radar processing chain.
Partner with M&S, radar mode and mission engineering teams to find and fix flaws in modeled data, operating modes and mission architectures.
Run performance models and simulations on high-performance computing grids to evaluate and tune system and subsystem behavior.
Carry out analysis-of-alternatives and mission architecture trades across offensive and defensive orders of battle, formations and equipment, including sensor, effector and weapon laydowns, platforms and loadouts, communications, and command and control, and assess the effect of tactics and strategies.
Conduct trade studies and produce systems engineering documents, reports, operational documentation and mission analysis products.
Use MSE&A frameworks to support software integration, algorithm development and radar mode validation, and to evaluate CONEMPS, CONOPS and Design Reference Missions that shape system design, keeping modeled, operational and real-world data consistent.
Link system and subsystem requirements to performance metrics and mission threads, define and verify interfaces that enable mission execution, plan verification and validation, and support integration and test during development.
Validate radar algorithms by tracing IQ data through the processing chain, comparing modeled and collected data, and identifying shortfalls and fixes.
Plan, generate and run verification and validation artifacts for design verification and acceptance testing, including test plans, procedures and data review packages. Plan demonstration and delivery of mission effects, data or capabilities, and support sustainment and mission augmentation over system life.
Build and improve performance models, simulation frameworks and analysis tools, including physics-based radar, threat and environment, command and control, and mission-level models.
Analyze large data sets using probability, statistics and design of experiments to assess system and mission performance, algorithm robustness and sensitivity to key parameters.
Work with interdisciplinary teams to diagnose performance issues, run operational and mission effectiveness analysis, recommend design or tuning changes, and confirm integrated solutions meet performance and mission requirements.
Prepare technical material and present it to internal and external customers at briefings, technical reviews and design or test readiness events.
Find better methods across MSE&A products, performance analysis, operational analysis and integration and test.
Model operating environments, run computer-based trade studies and recommend alternative architectures.
Build and use advanced graphical interfaces and visualization tools to explore, validate and communicate performance and mission results.
The role depends on contract award, obtaining an active U.S. Government Secret clearance and special access program (SAP) access.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree with 5 years of experience, a master's degree with 3 years, or a Ph.D. with 1 year, in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or a related technical field. Another 4 years of experience may be considered in place of a degree.
U.S. citizenship is required.
A final U.S. Government Secret clearance.
Ability to obtain and keep SAP access.
Experience with modeling, simulation, experimentation and analysis for operations, using tools such as MATLAB, STK or similar.
Knowledge of combat simulation environments such as AFSIM and/or Brawler, with a focus on realistic, effective outcomes.
Proficiency in Python and C/C++, with Linux or Windows scripting, statistics, design of experiments and high-performance computing.
Preferred: advanced degree in science, technology, engineering, mathematics or a related field.
Preferred: current or active Secret clearance or higher.
Preferred: experience with JMP, R or other domain tools for data exploration, visualization and statistics.
