The company is a human performance business that makes supplements for physical and cognitive well-being. It works with scientists and athletic performance experts, and its products serve professional and NCAA sports teams.
The company has been on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing US companies for 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, and has been named to Inc's Best Places to Work list.
This role leads technology for the company, covering company-wide IT, cloud data infrastructure, enterprise systems, data integrations, governance and emerging AI capabilities. It reports to the CFO.
The goal is one trusted data ecosystem that connects the eCommerce, subscription, Amazon, retail, financial and operational platforms, so information is accurate and consistent. You will work with the Data Analytics Center of Excellence in Finance: Analytics sets the metrics, and Technology builds and runs the platform that serves them to people and AI tools.
This is a hands-on player-coach role. The ideal person has personally designed and run modern data platforms, makes practical technology investment decisions, and works well as a senior technical leader in a lean, fast-growing company.
Responsibilities
Own the design, build and running of the cloud data platform, preferably on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and BigQuery.
Build and maintain scalable pipelines that ingest, transform and integrate data from business systems.
Keep data reliable and fresh, and keep costs under control, through monitoring, tuning and hands-on troubleshooting.
Design and manage syndicated data sources.
Make sure data flows across eCommerce, subscriptions, Finance, Operations and omnichannel systems are accurate and on time.
Manage external technology and data vendors, setting clear service levels and holding them to performance.
Find ways to simplify systems, automate processes and improve efficiency.
Build and maintain a governed data foundation and semantic layer using dbt, MetricFlow or equivalent tools.
Apply the metric definitions set by Finance and the Data Analytics Center of Excellence across revenue, channel, product, customer and subscription data, with automated tests that stop numbers drifting.
Work with Finance and the Data Analytics Manager on data integrity, financial reconciliation and reliable reporting.
Build scalable, AI-ready architecture that supports secure automation, agent workflows and data-driven applications.
Help design and connect enterprise data to AI tools, including MCP servers, with proper access controls and audit trails.
Work with business leaders to pick and deliver high-impact AI use cases that improve efficiency and capability.
Define the governance model for AI tools: which systems and data agents can reach, how usage is logged, and how outputs are reviewed.
Own enterprise security, data privacy and IT risk across systems and infrastructure.
Set standards for customer PII, sensitive business data, identity and access management (IAM) and least-privilege access.
Manage vendor security risk and put SOC-style controls and documentation in place so the company stays audit-ready as it grows.
Maintain business continuity, system recovery and risk mitigation for critical platforms.
Own the company-wide technology strategy and roadmap, balancing speed, cost, security and long-term goals.
Oversee employee devices, SaaS administration and IT support, mainly through an external IT partner.
Assess technology investments and decide when to build or buy.
Act as a hands-on technology partner to Finance, Analytics, eCommerce, Marketing, Operations and People, turning their needs into scalable solutions.
Lead as a player-coach, doing technical work yourself while leading external partners and a team that grows over time.
Requirements
At least 8 years in data engineering, cloud infrastructure, enterprise technology or a related technical field, including real hands-on engineering work.
Proven experience designing, building and running modern cloud data platforms, preferably on GCP and BigQuery.
Experience owning enterprise IT systems and managing external technology vendors, implementation partners and SLAs.
Experience integrating business systems and data sources, ideally across eCommerce, subscriptions, ERP, Amazon and omnichannel commerce.
Experience in lean, fast-growing environments where strategy and hands-on technical work matter equally.
Deep expertise in cloud architecture and data engineering, fluent in SQL and Python, with experience in pipeline orchestration and infrastructure-as-code.
Strong working knowledge of GCP, BigQuery, data pipelines, identity and access management, environment separation and cloud cost optimization.
Experience with data transformation and semantic layer tools such as dbt, MetricFlow or equivalents.
Understanding of Shopify, Recharge, ERP platforms such as Fulfil, and omnichannel commerce integrations.
Hands-on experience building with LLMs and AI-native architecture, including MCP servers, AI agents, secure data access and workflow automation.
Knowledge of enterprise IT administration, SaaS management, information security, customer privacy, vendor risk and SOC-style control frameworks.
Excellent communication, prioritization and cross-functional leadership skills.
Hands-on builder and pragmatic leader, equally comfortable writing code, solving technical problems and setting long-term strategy.
Balances technical depth with business judgment, cost discipline and practical execution.
Comfortable as a senior technical leader in an organization with limited resources and few established processes.
Curious about emerging technologies, AI, automation and continuous improvement.
Builds trust with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Has a genuine interest in health, wellness, fitness and human performance.
