The company is a nuclear technology firm in Bellevue, Washington, founded in 2006. It works on more affordable, secure, lower-impact nuclear energy and on medical isotopes.
This is a product lead role for the digital twin work on the company's advanced reactor program, and it sets the company's digital twin direction across design, construction and operations.
Responsibilities
Set the company's digital twin philosophy and own its strategy, settling competing views so the direction stays consistent over time.
Write a clear working definition of a nuclear reactor digital twin, covering what it includes, what it excludes, and how the design, planning, construction and operations versions relate.
Get Design, Engineering, Construction, Operations and Enterprise AI & IT to share one vocabulary, one maturity model and one set of principles.
Connect the digital twin approach to the broader Digital Product and Enterprise AI goals.
Build working knowledge of modeling and simulation, 3D/CAD and BIM, engineering data and configuration management, sensor and operating data, and AI/ML as they apply to advanced nuclear.
Separate products (capabilities users consume), platforms (shared foundations) and architecture (how parts fit, integrate and change), and use that split to guide investment and design.
Weigh technical, resource and capability trade-offs from internal and external engineering teams, then make or recommend clear decisions.
Hold projects to defined use cases, value and boundaries to stop gold-plating and scope creep.
Work with enterprise architecture, data management and information security so solutions meet data, security, export-control and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a working relationship with internal customers in Design, Engineering and Operations without becoming a simple channel for every request.
Manage third-party technology and service partners, setting expectations, scope and success criteria.
Check for existing models, data, tools and efforts before new work starts, and prevent duplication across internal teams and partners.
Make sure every engagement adds net value rather than parallel or redundant capability.
Own the advanced reactor digital twin initiatives end to end, including starting, scoping, prioritizing, delivering and closing projects.
Keep a prioritized digital twin roadmap and portfolio aligned to Digital Product goals and program milestones.
Define success measures for each capability and report progress, risks and outcomes to leadership.
Decide promptly, escalate when needed, and close or stop work that no longer delivers value.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, physics or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
8+ years in technical product management, digital engineering, systems engineering or technical program leadership, including 3+ years leading digital twin, modeling and simulation or comparable digital engineering work.
Familiarity with the analysis codes the twin may need to wrap or check against: internally developed tools, DOE/INL MOOSE and NEAMS tools, GOTHIC, RELAP5-3D or TRACE for thermal-hydraulics, MELCOR for severe accidents, and MCNP or Serpent for neutronics.
Clear understanding of how products, platforms and architecture differ, and experience applying that to technology strategy and investment.
Ability to understand complex design, engineering and operational workflows and turn them into prioritized use cases and requirements.
Track record of delivering technical capabilities through engineering teams and external partners without directly running the execution.
Strong independent judgment on technical, resource and capability trade-offs.
Strong communication: able to set requirements for engineers and explain trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
Preferred: experience in nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense or another highly regulated, engineering-intensive industry.
Preferred: familiarity with full-scope nuclear plant simulators.
Preferred: familiarity with nuclear design, licensing and quality frameworks such as NRC regulations, 10 CFR 50 Appendix B and NQA-1, and their effect on engineering data, digital tools and verification and validation (V&V).
Preferred: experience with nuclear cybersecurity requirements (10 CFR 73.54 / NEI 08-09 in the US).
Preferred: experience with engineering data management, PLM, configuration management or systems engineering (MBSE).
Preferred: understanding of how AI/ML and knowledge graphs can augment digital twins.
Preferred: experience establishing a new capability or discipline, including its vision, operating model and governance.
Preferred: advanced degree in a relevant technical field.
