Description

The team is in the middle of a major brand change, and digital is the main place where fans, partners and the public meet it. The team's website, app and season campaigns show the brand in real time, and there is clear room to improve them.

This is a leadership role with real creative responsibility, not a coordination job. You will set the direction and quality of everything published on the team's owned digital channels, and you will work day to day with the Head of Creative, Head of Social and Head of Brand so that digital work fits with social and brand activity.

The team has been competing in Formula 1 for almost 50 years, has won 16 World Championship titles, nine Constructors' Championships and 7 Drivers' Championships, with drivers including Alan Jones, Keke Rosberg, Nelson Piquet, Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Damon Hill and Jacques Villeneuve. It was founded in 1977 by the late Sir Frank Williams and Sir Patrick Head, and its long-term aim is to return to the front of the grid.

Responsibilities

  • Set the creative direction and quality standard for the team's website, app, campaign assets, email and digital moments tied to race activations.
  • Make the brand's digital expression sharper, more distinctive and more effective over time.
  • Lead concept work for major digital moments such as race activations, livery reveals, fan campaigns and product launches, from the brief through to delivery.
  • Review and contribute hands-on to design work across the team without becoming a bottleneck.
  • Work regularly with the Head of Creative, Head of Social and Head of Brand to align digital creative with brand and content plans.
  • Make sure digital output is part of social and brand campaigns rather than a separate stream.
  • Bring a clear point of view to senior creative discussions and speak for the digital channel.
  • Work with the Fan Growth & Performance team to produce high-quality assets for paid and organic channels that drive reach, engagement and conversion.
  • Build templates and systems that let the team iterate quickly without losing craft, and encourage testing.
  • Use performance data and fan insight to shape creative choices and the next version of the work.
  • Manage, mentor and develop the digital design team, and set clear briefing, feedback and review processes without micromanaging.
  • Plan resourcing, manage external partners and help shape the team as the function grows.
  • Own the digital component library, design system and motion principles, keeping them current and useful to those who use them.
  • Work with the Head of Brand to keep digital output consistent with the wider visual identity and help it strengthen that identity.
  • Find where the brand could be bolder, more distinctive and more fan-facing in digital, and make the case for it.

Requirements

  • 7 or more years of design experience, with a record of leading digital creative at a senior level, ideally in a fast-moving consumer, sports or entertainment brand, or a top agency serving those clients.
  • A strong creative leader with a clear point of view who can win over junior designers, heads of other teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Deep working knowledge of web, app, campaign, performance creative and brand, with a clear sense of what excellent work looks like on each.
  • Experience managing and developing designers, and a real interest in building a team rather than doing the work alone.
  • Highly collaborative, with experience working closely with social, brand and marketing leads to deliver integrated creative.
  • Expert in Figma and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects), and able to work in the tools hands-on when needed.
  • Uses performance data to improve work without letting it lose its creative edge.
  • Calm under pressure, decisive when it matters and easy to work with.
  • Passionate about Formula 1, or willing to commit fully to any sport or culture you get close to.
  • Preferred: a degree in Graphic Design, Digital Media or a related field. A strong portfolio matters more than credentials.

Conditions

The team is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion, and it will discuss reasonable job adjustments.
