Description

The team works on complex deployments in a mission-focused setting. The company is looking for a DevOps engineer with deep Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) experience, advanced networking skills, and hands-on work with Puppet, Ansible, and CI/CD.

You will set up, configure, and troubleshoot both test and production environments, and look for ways to improve and modernize deployment pipelines that currently rely mainly on Puppet.

The work is hands-on and high-impact, and your contributions will directly shape how the team delivers. You will balance operational reliability with automation, security, and scalability in a fast-moving setting.

This is a full-time, regular position with no travel required, only local travel.

Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, and keep RHEL environments running for operational deployments.
  • Build and maintain automation and configuration management using Puppet and Ansible.
  • Handle Tier 3 and Tier 4 escalations with in-depth troubleshooting across infrastructure and application layers.
  • Reduce manual steps in deployments by writing scripts and connecting tools.
  • Work with developers, infrastructure teams, and cybersecurity engineers to build secure, scalable systems.
  • Write up installation procedures, troubleshooting guides, and deployment workflows.
  • Help maintain CI/CD pipelines and monitoring so production stays reliable.
  • Add security features and respond to newly identified vulnerabilities and current best practices.

Requirements

  • Required: An active Top Secret clearance and the ability to obtain SCI.
  • Required: The ability to meet DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification requirements, such as Security+ CE, within 45 days of hire.
  • Required: Extensive hands-on experience administering and troubleshooting RHEL systems, including routing, VLANs, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Required: A bachelor's and/or master's degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Required: At least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, skills, and experience.
  • Required: Proficiency with Puppet and Ansible for configuration management and automation.
  • Required: Understanding of Agile development, DevOps methods, and secure software delivery principles.
  • Required: Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
  • Required: Familiarity with version control and CI/CD tools such as Git, GitLab, and Jenkins.
  • Required: Strong scripting skills in Bash or Python.
  • Required: Excellent troubleshooting skills across OS, network, and application layers.
  • Desired: An active Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Desired: Experience with AWS and cloud architecture principles.
  • Desired: Familiarity with Helm charts and Kubernetes deployments, and willingness to set up and maintain Kubernetes clusters.
  • Desired: Experience working in environments governed by STIGs, NIST 800-171, or similar security baselines.

Conditions

The proposed salary range is $94,400 to $198,200.

Final pay depends on factors including geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.

Benefits

  • Flexible time off, so you can take the time you need.
  • Access to robust learning resources to support your career goals.
  • Competitive compensation and learning and development opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefits including healthcare, wellness, financial, retirement, family support, continuing education, and time off.
