Description

The company builds high fidelity aircraft simulators, and its simulations are distributed real-time systems made from shared and simulator-specific software building blocks.

The team relies on DevOps practices and CI/CD principles both for developing simulation models and software and for running its own IT infrastructure.

The role is based at the company's site in Manching, Germany, and works with an international team of DevOps engineers, IT infrastructure engineers and IT administrators.

Manching is a market town about an hour's drive north of Munich, with a wide range of leisure and cultural activities and easy access to nearby cities.

Responsibilities

  • Specify, design and build DevOps solutions and tools for the IT infrastructure and the various software development environments.
  • Set up and maintain Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines.
  • Advise and support the software development teams in raising their efficiency by applying CI/CD principles and tools.
  • Keep improving the capability and reliability of the department-owned and corporate-managed IT infrastructure, with a focus on DevOps tooling.
  • You will help shape the CI/CD infrastructure and how it is applied across the simulation projects, and you will lead, coach and guide other DevOps engineers.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer science or a related field.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in DevOps and CI/CD automation development.
  • Proven experience building, maintaining and evolving robust CI/CD pipelines with tools such as Jenkins or GitLab for continuous integration, and Ansible, Puppet and/or OPSI for infrastructure provisioning and continuous deployment.
  • Experience designing and running enterprise-level IT infrastructure with a strong focus on infrastructure as code, dynamic provisioning and immutable systems, including the HashiCorp toolstack (Terraform, Packer, Vault), and a drive to automate processes.
  • Solid Linux skills across multiple distributions, and scripting or programming skills in Python, Ansible, Groovy, Bash, C++ or similar.
  • Experience with virtualization (Proxmox, KVM), container infrastructure (Docker, Kubernetes) and storage solutions (Ceph, ZFS, Samba) is essential.
  • Full-stack software development experience with related tools such as Git, Nexus and Artifactory is an advantage.
  • Experience in air-gapped and/or secrecy-ready IT environments (for example data diodes, BSI Grundschutz, encryption) is a significant advantage.
  • Excellent English at negotiation level is required, along with a proactive, customer-oriented attitude.
  • Not a 100% match? Apply anyway, as the company supports personal development with tailored growth plans.
  • The job requires awareness of potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity.

Conditions

Permanent employment, at experience level Professional, in the Software Engineering job family.

The role is at the company Defence and Space GmbH in Manching, Germany.

Working time is 35 hours per week, with flexible hours, mobile working, part-time options, job sharing and sabbatical opportunities.

The company welcomes applications regardless of background and is committed to equal opportunities.

The company will never ask for any payment during recruitment. Report any impersonation to the company's site.

Benefits

  • Attractive pay and individual extras, such as company pension schemes, mobility offers (for example bike leasing) and corporate discounts with partner companies, under current guidelines.
  • 30 days of annual leave under the collective agreement.
  • Professional development opportunities and international, group-wide career paths.
  • An on-site company doctor, health programmes (sports courses, preventive care and similar), a canteen and cafeteria, and childcare facilities at selected locations.
  • A workplace with more than 140 nationalities.
