Description

The Diagnostics Insights DevOps team has about 14 engineers and serves the product teams of four Agile Release Trains (ARTs). It works across three areas: Continuous Integration, Cloud and Continuous Delivery, and On-demand Environments. The team sets the engineering specifications products follow and builds the shared tools that put them in place: Product CI, a standard deployment chart and an infrastructure portal.

The role is for a technical DevOps Delivery Manager who owns what the team delivers and when. The aim is a clear backlog, dependable dates, visible progress and stakeholders who know what to expect. It combines product ownership of the team backlog with coordination across the ARTs, and it sits within the team's daily work rather than above it.

The company is a healthcare business with more than 100,000 employees worldwide. It reports more than 26 million people treated with its medicines and over 30 billion diagnostic tests conducted.

Responsibilities

  • Own the team backlog across the three areas, set priorities with each ART's Release Train Engineer and Product Owners, and keep items clean, sized and dated.
  • Convert commitments into delivery dates and hold the team to them. Catch stalled work early and clear the blockers.
  • Build the tracking and reporting the team uses: dashboards, metrics such as lead time, throughput, predictability and adoption, and a reporting rhythm that shows leadership, the ARTs and the team where each commitment stands.
  • Promote Product CI, the deployment chart and the infrastructure portal to product teams, drive their adoption and collect feedback.
  • Plan, approve, track and announce every infrastructure change, such as an EKS upgrade, a networking change or a deprecation, before it goes live. Follow the company's change control and compliance process. Make sure product teams know what is changing, when, what it affects and what they must do.
  • Hold regular backlog reviews with each ART to capture and prioritize their needs correctly.
  • Work with the Engineering Managers and the Architects to turn specifications into increments the team can deliver.
  • Secure commitments from engineers and stakeholders through influence, not authority. Follow up on them and escalate only when necessary.
  • Take part in the team's daily rhythm, supporting planning, reviews and retrospectives. Spot when pressure is needed, when communication breaks down or when ways of working drift, and respond by running a retrospective, resetting priorities or raising it with the Engineering Managers. When the team needs it, act as Scrum Master; this is part of the role but not its main focus.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years in software delivery, including at least 2 years as a Product Owner, Delivery Manager or Technical Program Manager on engineering or infrastructure teams.
  • You have led through influence, gaining commitments from engineers and stakeholders you do not manage, holding them to dates, and declining requests from other teams while keeping the relationship intact.
  • You are technical enough to work inside a DevOps team: you can read a pipeline, understand a Kubernetes deployment, follow a Terraform plan, and work comfortably with GitHub Actions, containers, AWS and Infrastructure as Code.
  • You communicate clearly, explaining a technical change to an engineer and its value to a manager.
  • You have built delivery tracking and reporting from scratch, not only used existing tools.
  • Fluent English and Spanish.
  • Experience with Agile at scale (SAFe or similar) and Jira.
  • Previous hands-on work as a DevOps or Platform Engineer.
  • Experience in a regulated environment such as medical devices, IVD or GxP.
  • Experience with GitOps, Helm or Backstage.
