Description

The company is a small creative agency founded in 2014 that works on ecommerce, brand building, design and content. It is a Shopify Plus Partner and builds stores for brands that are moving to Shopify, already on it, or starting a new store there.

The team is small and specialized, with work organized into dedicated pods. The company sees its size as an advantage, giving it time to focus on client needs and to build systems tailored to each client.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a dedicated pod alongside a Designer and an Account Manager to turn designs into scalable, high-quality technical builds, and join the wider development team on architecture, code reviews and best practices.
  • Bring strong attention to detail, solid problem-solving and an organized, solutions-focused approach. You care about clean, scalable code as much as the finished look and feel.
  • You report to the Account Director and help keep strategy, scope and execution aligned across the clients your pod shares.
  • Stay current on web development and ecommerce trends, framework updates and industry standards, and apply what you learn to projects. Apply SEO, accessibility and UX principles, and pick the right environments, platforms, languages and frameworks for each job.
  • Plan architecture and technical approaches with other developers, and record decisions so the internal team can see them.
  • Recommend tools, plugins, libraries, frameworks and platforms using input from sales and support staff, project proposals and feature requests.
  • Review code with other developers to keep practices consistent, help them with technical questions, and help onboard new hires.
  • Work with Account Managers on scope, priorities and timelines, and flag out-of-scope requests early so you can propose alternatives that keep the client satisfied.
  • Plan your own schedule and deliverables, estimate time accurately, and report progress and blockers clearly. Communicate with production and account staff through Slack and Asana.
  • Work with external partners when needed to keep technical work aligned.
  • Be available during peak periods such as BFCM and year-end to support high-priority launches.
  • Own development work from build through launch, covering performance, quality and scalability. Handle the full development cycle from kickoff to launch.
  • Build and maintain design-heavy, responsive custom and customized Shopify theme websites, and create reusable components and libraries that follow company standards.
  • Integrate third-party APIs and Shopify and Webflow apps, and build campaign features such as BFCM promotions, cookie policies, DMARC setup and performance audits.
  • Test work locally and on staging before final review. Run QA and peer code reviews to check accuracy, efficiency, scalability and maintainability, and fix issues and bugs.
  • Scope and quote on-demand development tasks by clarifying briefs, defining technical requirements and estimating effort with the Account Manager.
  • Maintain the company website, run development updates on internal projects, and analyze data in Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Ahrefs.
  • Research solutions, write up practical implementation steps, and document findings in Notion. Maintain internal documentation, workflows and templates in Asana, Figma, Notion and Google Suite.
  • Keep project files organized across desktop, downloads and drive folders. Improve internal processes as you go.
  • Write post-project recaps with the Account Manager covering wins, lessons and areas to improve, for internal and client use.
  • Support clients with specific requests when needed, and join brainstorms for new pitches and internal projects.
  • Take part in quarterly reviews to assess your strengths, identify gaps and set goals.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of agency experience as a Developer.
  • Strong experience with Liquid and Shopify theme development.
  • Familiarity with Shopify and Webflow apps and integrations.
  • Experience building high-quality, responsive websites.
  • Fluency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and jQuery.
  • Knowledge of at least one JavaScript framework such as React.js or Vue.js.
  • Strong attention to detail, and the ability to meet tight deadlines in a close-knit team.
  • Comfortable using version control software such as GitHub.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience turning Figma designs into pixel-perfect web pages.
  • Experience with cross-browser and cross-device testing.
  • Experience writing code that is friendly to SEO and accessibility.
  • Progression path to Senior Developer: a Senior Developer takes more technical ownership, thinks about whole systems and leads across projects. Signs of readiness include owning architecture with little oversight, turning requirements into scalable, maintainable, high-performance solutions, spotting technical risks before they affect delivery, mentoring developers, improving internal systems and standards, working closely with design and account teams to steer projects, ensuring long-term scalability, performance and quality, and aligning technical choices with business goals and outcomes.
