Description

The team is Decisions Orchestration, which covers the key moments in the company's checkout flow, from the screens shoppers see to the downstream orchestration and state management behind them.

This Staff Frontend Software Engineer role sets technical direction for that area and leads the design of the next version of the checkout experience.

You will also raise the engineering standard across the core checkout flows, with the aim of making checkout fast, clear and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Set a year-long technical strategy for your team and connect it to high-impact business projects.
  • Work with product management, design and analytics through the product lifecycle so that technical sustainability, risks and trade-offs are understood and handled.
  • Multiply your team's impact by defining and promoting technical solutions and operating processes.
  • Own the team's operations and availability by putting in place monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing and alerting that support maintenance work and on-call duties.
  • Build a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards for your team and promoting them more widely through writing and tech talks.
  • Grow the people on your team through feedback, guidance and by setting an example.

Requirements

  • You have 8+ years of experience building and architecting web applications with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
  • You are proficient in JavaScript and TypeScript.
  • You have delivered major features or system components, or retired existing functionality, through a written technical and execution plan, and your code is high quality and easy for others to understand and use.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and can move from low-level language details up to the architecture of large systems.
  • You have a track record of gathering feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers and acting on it over time.
  • You communicate clearly in speech and writing to work effectively with the company's global engineering team.
  • You have either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
