Description

The company is an international insurer focused on luxury goods and property markets, plus high-end professional insurance, with offices in 9 European countries and a highly international workforce.

The Europe Data Team is a cross-country group of data engineers, analysts and data managers. It builds high-quality data pipelines and reporting, sets up governance frameworks, and works with business teams across Europe.

The team's goal is data that is trusted, consistent and easy to access, so decisions get smarter and the enterprise data strategy keeps developing.

This is a permanent role.

Responsibilities

  • You design, build and maintain the data pipelines and platform components behind the European analytics platform, which runs on Microsoft Azure and Databricks.
  • You work with Data Analysts and the Data Product Manager to turn business requirements into reliable, well-tested data solutions.
  • You deliver new data requests, bug fixes and improvements, and help keep daily production data processes running.
  • You build data pipelines on Databricks that ingest, transform and deliver data, and integrate several data sources into one platform.
  • You help with data modelling and tuning data structures, and support platform changes that fit the cloud architecture, such as Azure and Databricks.
  • You deliver requests, fixes and improvements within agreed priorities, and build business-facing pipelines and data products from requirements through to production.
  • You help move legacy processes to Databricks and talk with business stakeholders when requirements need clarifying.
  • You keep pipelines accurate, consistent and fast, and find ways to improve their performance, cost and reliability.
  • You monitor and troubleshoot production batches to resolve issues on time, and carry out data deployments through defined processes so releases are accurate and smooth.
  • You take part in peer code reviews, follow the team's engineering standards, document technical solutions and share knowledge with the team.
  • You help improve data processes, standards and platform design over time.

Requirements

  • Hands-on Databricks experience is essential, including Spark or PySpark, Delta Lake and job orchestration.
  • You know data modelling, including star schemas, and ETL or ELT processes.
  • You write advanced SQL for querying, transforming and troubleshooting data.
  • You have Python experience for data engineering.
  • You have worked with Azure Data Factory or similar orchestration tools.
  • You are familiar with version control and deployment practices for data pipelines, such as Git or Azure DevOps.
  • You can understand business needs and turn them into technical requirements.
  • You communicate well and work effectively with analysts and business teams.
  • You have 3+ years in data engineering or data and analytics roles.
  • You have worked in analytics and reporting, ideally in insurance.
  • You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or a related field.
  • You are fluent in English, spoken and written.
  • You work well on your own and also contribute to a team.
  • You stay positive and care about getting value from data.
  • You explain ideas clearly to both technical and non-technical people.
  • You turn business needs into practical technical solutions.
  • You handle ambiguity and change well, and you are flexible, adaptable and resilient.

Conditions

The role is permanent and the work supports ongoing data transformation in Europe, so you get hands-on exposure to a modern cloud data stack while balancing daily operations and existing commitments.

The posting includes an equal-opportunity statement, which is not reproduced here.

Benefits

  • You work alongside a group of people in a distinctive culture.
