Description

The company's technology team supports a Fortune 100 business with nearly $70 billion in annual sales, and it is looking for people who want to shape how new technology drives results.

As a Software Engineer, you will turn business and functional requirements into scalable technical solutions built with Java/J2EE, Spring Boot, and Groovy/Grails.

You will mentor others and help deliver cost-effective solutions for business partners, whether you build new applications or modify and support packaged or custom-built ones.

The team values secure solutions, works in an agile way, and collaborates closely to deliver strong results.

Responsibilities

  • Build and ship RESTful APIs and microservices with a focus on high performance and long-term maintainability.
  • Turn requirements into detailed system architecture and workflow diagrams in Microsoft Visio, and track them in Jira and ServiceNow.
  • Deploy applications on Apache Tomcat and Oracle WebLogic, and connect them to Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2.
  • Lead cloud migration work by re-architecting applications to use AWS S3, Lambda, SNS, and SQS for better scale and reliability.
  • Own delivery of project milestones end to end, coordinating cross-functional work in Jira and managing code in GitHub.
  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices across the full delivery lifecycle to protect data and solutions from threats and weaknesses.
  • Mentor and train team members on design techniques, tools, and coding standards.
  • Give strategic technical advice on using technology to reach business and technology goals.
  • Drive collaboration and project execution across several teams.
  • Analyze, build, test, debug, document, and deploy moderately complex software that meets standards and best practices.
  • Champion DevSecOps practices and tools to improve quality, security, automation, and delivery speed across teams.
  • Proactively manage several medium to large projects with competing priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology, plus 3 years of experience doing the duties described above.
  • Six or more years of programming, software engineering, or systems analysis experience.
  • Hands-on technical leadership, including leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
  • Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
  • A proven record of solving complex business and development problems.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Undergraduate study in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
  • Three years of project management experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry is a plus.
  • Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies, and experience, may outweigh the listed requirements.
  • Any exception to these requirements must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and an HR Business Partner.
