Description

The company is a Fortune 100 business with nearly $70 billion in annual sales, and its technology team is looking for engineers who want to help the business adopt new technology that produces measurable results.

The Forward Deployed Engineering group builds and keeps improving reusable enterprise capabilities that help other teams build, run, and manage AI solutions with greater speed, safety, consistency, accountability, and cost control.

You will work in cross-functional product and platform teams to design, build, integrate, ship, and support shared AI capabilities. These include an internal AI portal and model catalog, LLM-as-a-Service, model access, agent tooling, MCP services, evaluation and observability tools, guardrails, and developer enablement.

You will use and extend the shared capabilities that the AI Platform Engineering group provides. You will work with that group on reusable patterns and service interfaces and avoid rebuilding platform features inside individual solutions. You are accountable for the production readiness, reliability, security, privacy, observability, supportability, and cost effectiveness of the AI solutions and services you deliver.

As a Software Engineer, you will mentor and guide others while delivering cost-effective technology for business partners. That work includes writing new applications and changing or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications.

Responsibilities

  • Apply secure software and systems engineering practices at every stage of delivery so that data and technology solutions are protected against threats and weaknesses.
  • Mentor and train team members on design methods, tools, and coding standards.
  • Give strategic technical advice on how technology can meet business and technology goals.
  • Coordinate work across several teams to get projects executed.
  • Analyze, build, test, debug, document, and deploy software of moderate complexity that follows standards and best practices.
  • Promote DevSecOps practices, tools, and methods to improve software quality, security, automation, and delivery speed across teams.
  • Manage several medium to large projects at once, staying ahead of priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.
  • You report to a Technology Manager or Director.

Requirements

  • You have strong skills in AI, software, cloud, and platform engineering.
  • You have experience with model integration, agent development, DevSecOps, security and privacy, governance, reliability, and cost management.
  • You can deliver outcomes on your own, influence technical decisions, and improve reuse, developer experience, cost visibility, and adoption across the enterprise.
  • You have six or more years of programming, software engineering, or systems analysis experience.
  • You have hands-on technical leadership experience, including leading project teams and setting technical direction.
  • You are proficient in one or more programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or JavaScript.
  • You understand the software development lifecycle.
  • You can solve complex business and development problems and work well in a team.
  • Strongly preferred: an undergraduate degree in computer science, management information systems, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Preferred: three years of project management experience.
  • A plus: knowledge of the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Leadership skills, competencies, and experience may outweigh the criteria above.
  • Exceptions to these requirements must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and an HR Business Partner.
  • You consistently live the company's values.

Conditions

The role is hybrid and requires you to be in an office two days per week, at one of the company's office locations.

You must live within a reasonable commute of Columbus, OH, Des Moines, IA, or Scottsdale, AZ. Current internal associates who work remotely may also be considered.

The role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization, and the company does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

The position is exempt and not eligible for overtime.

Working conditions are a normal office environment in hybrid form. You may be on call after normal hours or on weekends.

The company is an equal opportunity employer that prohibits discrimination and harassment, and it bans smoking in enclosed areas on company premises and in company vehicles in line with Iowa law.

Benefits

  • Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, short- and long-term disability coverage, and a 401(k) with company match.
  • Newly hired associates receive at least 18 days of paid time off in each full calendar year, prorated quarterly from the hire date.
  • You also get nine paid holidays, 8 hours of Lifetime paid time off, 8 hours of Unity Day paid time off, a company-paid pension plan, and business casual attire.
  • The national salary range for this role is $118,000.00 to $222,000.00.
  • The expected starting salary range is $118,000.00 to $178,000.00.
  • Pay is set by a geographic salary structure. Where you land in the range depends on your skills, education, training, credentials, and experience, the scope, complexity, and location of the role, local labor market costs, and other employment conditions.
  • The salary ranges reflect full-time pay. For part-time work, actual pay may be prorated to the hours worked.
