Description

This role turns complex data into clear findings and decision models, then turns those findings into recommendations that stakeholders across departments can act on.

The payments acceptance business processes billions of pounds a year for small firms and corporate clients, both in the UK and overseas. The role sits in the Data & Analytics team and helps shape the commercial strategy, aiming at growth, profit, customer acquisition, retention and competitiveness in a fast-moving payments market.

In April 2025 the company agreed a long-term partnership with Brookfield Asset Management to grow the business, widen its services and improve the experience for current and future clients. Brookfield brings global private equity experience in payments, technology, operational change and corporate carve-outs.

The company will invest about £400m in the new business, mostly in the first 3 years. Performance-linked incentives align both partners. Over time the aim is a standalone entity that keeps the existing payments brand and remains the sole payments acceptance provider to the company's clients for at least 10 years.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain commercial performance models and reporting frameworks, using customer behaviour, transaction trends, sales results, market conditions and competitor activity.
  • Find and pull relevant data from internal and external sources.
  • Run sensitivity analysis and scenario planning.
  • Build and validate quantitative models that support decisions across business areas.
  • Track how well existing models perform.
  • Set up and run data quality controls.
  • Carry out automated and agent-based performance reviews of commercial initiatives, campaigns and growth programmes, monitor results and find ways to improve them.
  • Test modelling techniques and cloud capabilities, including the latest ones.
  • Oversee governance of commercial reporting, analytical methods and performance measures so outputs stay robust, controlled and well documented.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership and senior management, on the impact and alignment of decisions across and within functions.
  • Assess and manage risk to support the control and governance agenda, and take ownership of risk and controls in your team's work.
  • Solve problems through in-depth analysis, compare complex options and draw on extensive research.
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, using influence and negotiation to reach business objectives.
  • Keep up with business activity and strategy by working with business-aligned support areas and understanding how the company's functions fit together.
  • Contribute to strategy, shape requirements and recommend change. Plan resources and budgets, manage policies and processes, drive continuous improvement and escalate policy breaches.
  • If you manage people, define roles, plan the team's future needs, coach staff on performance, input on pay decisions and lead specialists in line with strategic and tactical priorities, balancing short and long term goals within budget and schedule.
  • If you manage people, show the 4 LEAD behaviours: listen and be authentic, energise and inspire, align across the enterprise, and develop others.
  • If you work as an individual contributor, act as the subject matter expert in your discipline, set technical direction, lead multi-year collaborative work, bring in other specialisms where needed, coach less experienced specialists, and advise on long-term profit, organisational risk and strategic decisions.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant analytical discipline such as statistics, mathematics, economics, finance, data science, computer science or a related field.
  • Experience working with large, complex and unstructured data, using SQL, Python and cloud tools for analysis and modelling.
  • Experience building data visualisations and delivering commercial insight, with the ability to influence decisions through clear, data-driven recommendations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience leading and developing a high-performing team of data analysts and scientists.
  • Highly valued: experience using data and analytics to assess commercial performance, measure the effectiveness of key initiatives and give insight that drives growth and profitability.
  • Highly valued: strong stakeholder engagement, building effective relationships and explaining insight clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You may be assessed on risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job-specific technical skills.

Conditions

All colleagues are expected to show the company's values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship, and its mindset to Empower, Challenge and Drive.
