Cloud Site Reliability Engineer

Description

The team is a region-wide cloud engineering group that builds and supports a multi-cloud automated platform for infrastructure as a service. You will be a key member, working with the global cloud teams to apply shared standards and practices and to run full-stack operations.

The role suits an engineer who has hands-on experience running an enterprise cloud platform and who writes software to automate operations. You will design and build automated operational processes for scalable cloud deployments, managed as code.

Responsibilities

• Standardise and automate provisioning and support, packaging them as reusable cloud services and interfaces
• Write infrastructure as code for AWS, Azure and GCP that follows best practice, for both non-production and production environments
• Build automated configuration and deployment processes that improve the functionality, availability and manageability of the company's cloud offerings
• Define, track and report service level indicators (SLIs) and objectives (SLOs), and use error budgets to weigh reliability against delivery speed
• Take part in the on-call rotation to respond to and triage incidents, resolve them, and help run blameless post-incident reviews and follow-up actions
• Find repetitive manual operational work and automate it to reduce toil
• Build and maintain monitoring, alerting and observability for cloud services, covering metrics, logs, traces and dashboards
• Help with capacity planning and performance tuning, and create and maintain runbooks and operational documentation

Requirements

• 2+ years writing AWS CloudFormation templates, Azure Resource Manager templates or equivalent GCP templates to build cloud services as code, plus strong scripting with the AWS, Azure or GCP SDK or CLI
• Strong scripting in PowerShell and Python, and working with JSON and YAML for templates and configuration
• Understanding of SRE principles, including SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, incident management and blameless postmortems
• 1+ years using monitoring and observability tools such as CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, Grafana or equivalents
• Familiarity with Git and CI/CD pipelines for automated build, test and deployment
• Working knowledge of GCP core compute, storage, networking and IAM services
• Knowledge of APIs, and working knowledge of SQL and NoSQL databases and managed databases such as MySQL and AWS RDS
• Willingness to join the on-call rotation and respond to production incidents
