Site Reliability Engineer 4 (Cloud Operations Resilience Engineering)

This role puts you at the front of a major transformation across the company.

Responsibilities

• Set the architecture direction for resilient production systems at large scale.
• Lead strategic automation that removes repetitive operational work and raises platform efficiency.
• Run incident response, lead root cause analysis, and set strategies to prevent outages across systems.
• Define and oversee a secure, multi-cloud infrastructure-as-code strategy and its roadmap.
• Set organization-wide SLOs and hold teams accountable for reliability and error budget compliance.
• Act as the main technical mentor, growing SRE skills and culture across engineering teams.
• Own proactive capacity forecasting, cost optimization and the FinOps strategy for core infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related quantitative field such as statistics, economics, operations research, analytics, mathematics or engineering.
• At least 8 years leading SRE or DevOps initiatives and defining technical roadmaps.
• At least 8 years architecting, optimizing and governing enterprise-scale solutions on a major cloud provider (AWS, Microsoft Azure or GCP).
• Preferred: master's degree.
• Preferred: 4+ years defining and driving IaC and CI/CD strategy and best practices across an organization.
• Preferred: experience with 2 or more high-performance languages for building core platform tools and services.
• Preferred: expert-level ability to run complex, high-scale distributed systems and cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, Serverless).
• Preferred: proven success bringing SRE principles into mature Agile/Scrum development environments.
• Preferred: deep experience designing holistic observability and advanced, metrics-driven SLO frameworks.
• Preferred: expertise in security and compliance governance in cloud environments, including Zero Trust and secrets management.
• Preferred: significant contribution to open-source or strategic internal platform innovation.
• Preferred: track record designing, scaling and operating critical production platforms with measurable reliability and efficiency gains.
• Preferred: experience using generative AI and headless AI for advanced operations automation.
• Preferred: strong technical and strategic communication skills to build architectural consensus across organizations.

Conditions

Full-time annual salary ranges: McLean, VA $197,300 - $225,100; Richmond, VA $179,400 - $204,700; both for Site Reliability Engineer 4.

Candidates hired in other locations receive the pay range for that location, with the exact amount stated in the offer letter.

Part-time pay is prorated to the agreed number of regular hours.
