Description

The company is a long-term owner of software businesses that serve specialized industries. It buys, grows and holds them, and operates more than 120 portfolio companies across the Americas, Europe and APAC. Founded in 2016, it has appeared on the Inc. 5000 list six years in a row.

The portfolio is expanding constantly, with over 100 companies in healthcare, financial services, government, education, transportation, media, energy, manufacturing and other sectors, so new product and technology leadership roles come up regularly.

This is a talent community, not an open requisition. The company is looking for product and technology leaders in vertical SaaS who balance product vision with technical delivery, put AI first, and treat the product as the main driver of growth. Get in touch now to build a relationship for future roles.

The role is a Chief Product and Technology Officer seat at one of the portfolio companies, usually reporting to the CEO as a core leadership member. You would set product direction, own the technology strategy, lead the product and engineering organizations, and steer the architecture of a vertical SaaS platform that serves one industry with mission-critical software. Customers use the product every day and seldom leave.

The title and scope depend on the company. The core mandate is fixed: set direction from customer and market insight, own the technical foundation, lead the move to AI-native product and engineering, and build an organization that scales while staying able to change course quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Set product direction from customer and market insight.
  • Own the technology strategy, the platform architecture and the technical foundation.
  • Lead the engineering and product organizations as one accountable team.
  • Lead the shift to AI-native product and engineering work.
  • Build an organization that scales and can still pivot when the market requires it.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience leading product-led growth in B2B SaaS, including self-serve or product-qualified funnels, in-product onboarding and activation, usage-based expansion, or freemium and trial models, with measurable results in adoption, conversion, retention or expansion revenue.
  • Held accountability for both product management and engineering under one leadership seat.
  • Shipped AI-embedded product features with measurable customer outcomes, and use AI tools daily in your own work.
  • Led a product and technology transformation such as a replatforming, modernization, AI integration or repositioning, while keeping delivery on track and customer trust intact.
  • Built product analytics and experimentation into the team's routine, using usage data to guide activation, conversion and expansion choices.
  • Tied product and architecture decisions to revenue, retention, margin and competitive position, including build versus buy cases a CFO would accept.
  • Designed or redesigned a data architecture that supports product analytics, BI and AI as one asset.
  • Owned a SaaS platform's security posture and compliance, including SOC 2 and industry-specific standards, and managed a real incident.
  • Built and scaled product and engineering teams, grew people into leaders, and created a culture where teams decide without escalating every call.
  • Served as the CEO's main product and technology partner in executive, board, customer and sales discussions.
  • You stay close enough to the product and code to remain hands-on, and you can modernize a legacy platform without disrupting long-tenured teams and the customers who rely on it.

Conditions

The role is based at a portfolio company and the company is open to inquiries on ongoing and future roles.

The company may use AI tools to help screen and assess applicants, but all hiring decisions are made by people. Applicant data is handled under applicable privacy laws. Accommodation requests are welcome at any stage.

Benefits

  • Permanent ownership: the company buys and holds businesses long term and does not resell them, which gives room for bold platform modernization, AI-first product work and product-led growth.
  • Autonomy: you control product strategy, technology stack, team structure, delivery practices and AI strategy, with capital, shared services and operating partners available from the company.
  • A family-office style of support from people who know vertical market software.
  • Legacy protection: the brand, identity and culture of each acquired company are kept, and the company does not consolidate or strip businesses for parts.
  • A peer network of portfolio product and technology leaders working through modernization, AI adoption, product-led growth, team scaling and acquired codebases.
