Description

The company is a US drone maker focused on autonomous flight, which it sees as central to the future of drones and aerial mobility. The team includes AI, hardware, and software product specialists, and its drones serve utility inspectors, first responders, and soldiers in the field.

The core of the system is the computer vision algorithms that let drones understand their surroundings. These algorithms run on every drone the company builds, and you would work alongside computer vision researchers with academic and industry track records.

As an autonomy intern, you will be paired with one or more engineers on the core software team and take direct ownership of a project that meaningfully improves the team's capabilities and products.

This role suits someone with a solid base in math, theory, and software development, plus relevant research experience, who wants to help build the next generation of autonomy algorithms and move them into real products.

Responsibilities

  • Enable fast research and development of intelligent systems with autonomous capabilities beyond what exists today.
  • Research and prototype new approaches, and assess whether they are feasible.
  • Design and build new features that give users capabilities they would not otherwise have.
  • Measure and characterize the performance of core software and hardware components.

Requirements

  • Highly proficient in C++, Python, or both.
  • Demonstrated interest in at least one of: computer vision, deep learning, motion planning, dynamics and controls, 3D graphics, embedded software or firmware, distributed systems, tools and infrastructure, or mobile.
  • Solid software engineering foundation and a commitment to clean, well-architected code.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, collaborative, small team.

Conditions

Hourly pay is $47 for undergraduate interns, $53 for master's students, and $70 for PhD students.

Pay varies based on skill level, proficiencies, transferable knowledge, and experience, and for some positions may depend on regional location.

The position and its benefits are subject to applicable federal, state, and local laws and the company's policies and eligibility criteria.

The company values diversity and works to build an inclusive culture.

Benefits

  • Paid vacation time, sick leave, and holiday pay.
  • 401(k) savings plan.
