Description

All hired employees are expected to have experience with Microsoft Copilot or an approved equivalent AI tool.

The company (DSA) needs a Software Test Engineer with TS/SCI clearance to check the quality, reliability and security of cloud native applications that support Department of Defense missions. The role covers web applications, APIs, cloud services and infrastructure running in AWS GovCloud.

You will combine hands-on manual testing with automated test development in Cypress, working alongside developers, DevSecOps engineers, cybersecurity staff, product owners and mission stakeholders to check functionality, performance and security across the development lifecycle.

This is a hybrid role at the National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC) in Charlottesville, VA. Candidates must live within a two-hour commute of the worksite.

Responsibilities

  • Design and run test plans, test cases, test procedures and automated test suites for cloud native applications and services.
  • Test web applications built with React, TypeScript and Python, both manually and through automation.
  • Build, maintain and extend automated UI and end to end test frameworks in Cypress.
  • Check functionality, usability, accessibility and cross browser behaviour.
  • Test RESTful APIs and integrations using Postman, Cypress or comparable frameworks.
  • Work with developers during Agile cycles to set quality standards and acceptance criteria.
  • Add automated testing to GitLab CI/CD pipelines so testing runs continuously and releases stay fast.
  • Validate cloud native solutions deployed in AWS GovCloud.
  • Carry out regression, smoke, functional, integration, system and user acceptance testing.
  • Take part in Agile ceremonies: sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, sprint reviews and retrospectives.
  • Write up test strategies, results, quality metrics and operational support procedures.
  • Encourage quality engineering practices, shift left testing and test automation across development teams.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of testing and validating software within DoD or federal environments.
  • Experience designing and running manual and automated test strategies for enterprise software.
  • Hands-on Cypress automation experience for web applications.
  • Experience testing React, TypeScript, JavaScript and Python applications.
  • Experience validating REST APIs, JSON data and service integrations.
  • Solid grasp of testing methods, defect lifecycle management and QA processes.
  • Working knowledge of AWS GovCloud services, including EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3 and IAM.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Clear written and spoken communication, including explaining technical findings to varied audiences.
  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field. Experience may be substituted for the degree.
  • TS/SCI clearance.
  • DoD 8140 (8570) IAT Level II certification.
  • Preferred: experience leading QA initiatives in DevSecOps environments.
  • Preferred: experience building scalable automation frameworks with Cypress and other modern testing tools.
  • Preferred: experience with GitLab CI/CD and adding automated suites to deployment pipelines.
  • Preferred: experience with test reporting, quality metrics and quality dashboards.
  • Preferred: ISTQB Foundation Level, ISTQB Advanced Test Analyst or similar testing certification.

Conditions

Hybrid schedule at NGIC in Charlottesville, VA, with candidates required to live within a two-hour commute of the site.

Pay range: $130,000 - $160,000 USD. This is a good-faith estimate; the final figure depends on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, skills and other job-related factors.

Equal opportunity applies to all candidates.
