Description

This is an onsite role, and you will spend most of your time at a company office.

The company is a global business that helps organizations connect, protect, analyze and act on data and applications from the edge to the cloud.

The networking group combines the company's two networking portfolios into one AI-native platform focused on digital experience, covering cloud connectivity, network operations, security, simplicity and service assurance.

Sales engineers are technical specialists who turn customers' business and technology problems into networking solutions that deliver value faster.

The Associate Sales Engineering program is an entry point into technical sales, with hands-on work beside experienced sales engineers and colleagues while you support customers' goals.

Over the program you build the ability to lead technical discussions, starting with a customer's requirements, network and security constraints and business priorities before you propose a solution.

You do not need an engineering or computer science degree or to be a finished technologist. The team wants people who are curious, take the initiative to learn how technology works and can explain complex ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

  • The 48-week program builds networking fundamentals and pre-sales skills, and gives you room to contribute across several areas of the Sales Engineering organization.
  • Help improve the program and roll out best practices.
  • Answer technical pre-sales questions from partners and internal colleagues.
  • Work on projects that deepen your product knowledge and your grasp of sales engineering practice.
  • Join customer presentations and engagements, onsite or remote, and help run them.
  • Support demonstrations and technical discussions.
  • Write technical responses to customer proposals and follow up on their questions.
  • Help build lab proof-of-concept setups from defined test plans.
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops.
  • Learn customers' requirements and help shape solutions that fit their business.
  • Become familiar with both networking portfolios.
  • Program activities include foundational training across both portfolios in the first 12 weeks, new-hire training in the first few weeks, weekly hands-on labs, weekly demo practice, biweekly mentoring, HPE Tech Jam, guest speakers and extra learning, third-party pre-sales coaching through Mastering Technical Sales, and Sales Kick-Off activities.
  • By the end you will have core pre-sales skills and will have pursued certifications across both portfolios.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in any field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Up to two years of early-career experience in sales engineering, network operations, technical support, customer service, sales, leadership or a related area.
  • Evidence of self-directed learning, such as teaching yourself a skill, tool, certification or technology.
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. Employment eligibility will be verified under applicable law.
  • Willingness to relocate to Durham, North Carolina.
  • Willingness to relocate after the program to a Sales Engineer position identified by HPE Networking field leadership, which may be anywhere in the United States.
  • Strong fit: you have taught yourself a language, tool, technology or skill.
  • Strong fit: you have explored technology through a home lab, hackathon, personal project, certification or similar.
  • Strong fit: you have worked in a customer-facing role such as retail, hospitality, sales, support or service.
  • Strong fit: you have led a team, club, shift, organization, project, event or similar.
  • Strong fit: you have taught, tutored, trained, mentored or presented to others.
  • Strong fit: you are comfortable in a fast-moving, changing environment, can juggle several deadlines and priorities, and work well in a team.
  • Desired: a degree or coursework in engineering, computer science, information technology, networking or a related technical field.
  • Desired: general knowledge of computer networking concepts and solutions.
  • Desired: familiarity with cloud networking or operating-system virtualization.
  • Desired: experience with Python or a similar scripting language.
  • Desired: a home lab, personal technology project or independently earned certification.
  • Desired: leadership experience, such as team captain, resident assistant, club officer, shift lead, volunteer leader, ROTC, Scout leader or an equivalent role.
  • Desired: internship experience, technical or nontechnical.
  • Desired: experience founding or leading a project, club, side business, event or similar initiative.
