Description

The company is hiring an Associate Art Director for its art team. You will work alongside the Senior Art Director and creative leadership to shape the game's visual identity and guide art from early development through delivery.

The role centres on creative direction, visual judgment, and keeping disciplines aligned. You will turn the artistic vision into briefs, references, reviews, and clear feedback. You will also do hands-on work in at least one art discipline, switching between high-level direction and detailed critique, paintovers, or blockouts.

The company is a video game and interactive entertainment company that develops, publishes, and live-operates mobile, web, PC, and console games. It was founded in 2011 and has global operations with partners across four continents and more than a dozen countries. It has generated more than $10 billion in lifetime revenue and is a leading mobile games company in the U.S. and globally.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Senior Art Director and creative leadership to set the game's visual identity, principles, style guides, briefs, references, and quality standards.
  • Bring art disciplines and partner teams into line on goals, dependencies, handoffs, and decisions. Run visual reviews, critiques, kickoffs, and alignment sessions that give clear, constructive feedback.
  • Oversee the making and refinement of characters, environments, props, lighting, animation, VFX, UI, and other visual parts, keeping them cohesive yet varied.
  • Work with design, narrative, engineering, production, and external development partners to carry the artistic intent through development.
  • Contribute hands-on through concept work, paintovers, blockouts, callout sheets, reference packages, prototypes, and other art tasks.
  • Work with production and discipline leads to track milestones, flag risks, and keep creative priorities moving toward delivery.
  • Give artists, external partners, and vendors direction, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Improve how visual reviews and direction are run, represent the art team in cross-functional discussions, and pass priorities on to artists, partners, and senior stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional art experience for games, animation, film, or a related visual medium, or equivalent experience, with a growing record of creative responsibility.
  • Experience defining, communicating, and delivering an artistic vision from early development through to release.
  • Strong hands-on skill in at least one art discipline, ideally character art, environment art, or both.
  • Ability to communicate visual direction, run constructive reviews, and work with multidisciplinary teams, external partners, and remote contributors.
  • Working knowledge of production planning, prioritization, and milestone constraints, with the judgment to balance creative goals against delivery needs.
  • Experience creating or contributing to art bibles, style guides, visual development packages, mood boards, paintovers, callout sheets, or similar direction-setting materials.
  • Understanding of game art and real-time production pipelines, and familiarity with relevant 2D and/or 3D content creation tools.
  • A portfolio that shows artistic judgment, visual problem-solving, hands-on craft, and the ability to take work from concept to completion.
  • Experience in mobile game development or art direction.
  • Bonus points: familiarity with the Unity game engine.
  • Bonus points: experience supporting live service content development.
