Description

This full-time Application Engineer III role sits on the 24/7 WatchFloor and is part of the Secure the Enterprise initiative.

The initiative is moving the team away from manual system security evaluation and authorization toward an automated model with streamlined approvals, continuous monitoring and assessment, and network data gathering across the full project life cycle.

Minimum clearance to start is TS/SCI with Polygraph. The role requires no travel.

Responsibilities

  • Work across ANDS teams in a blended role that draws on software development, systems engineering, systems administration, and operations support.
  • Keep applications running reliably and accurately by monitoring and maintaining them.
  • Watch performance continuously and troubleshoot problems early, which may include changing system configuration or the code base.
  • Track metrics, logs, dashboards, alerts, and application status to head off downtime and keep applications performing well.
  • Support WatchFloor operations by spotting service degradation, failed dataflows, system errors, and application issues, and escalating them when needed.
  • Carry out basic Linux administration: check service status, start, stop, and restart services, review logs, check disk, memory, and CPU usage, and support server reboots.
  • Use the AWS Console or AWS CLI to check instance health and system status, restart or reboot servers, and help with basic operational troubleshooting in the cloud.
  • Work a rotating shift covering 6AM-6PM and 6PM-6AM to provide 24/7 application support on the WatchFloor.

Requirements

  • Hold an active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
  • Be proficient with Linux, with at least 3 years of Linux server administration experience within the last 3 years. You should be able to troubleshoot server and application issues, check system health, manage services, review logs, and reboot servers safely.
  • Be proficient with AWS, with at least 1 year of AWS experience within the last year.
  • Have experience creating and supporting EC2 instances, running service health checks, and doing basic operational troubleshooting using C2E, HCI, AWS, Lambda, the AWS Console, or the AWS CLI.
  • Be proficient with Ansible, with at least 1 year of Ansible experience within the last year. Similar experience with Salt in place of Ansible will also be considered.
  • Be proficient in at least one of the following areas:
  • Monitoring and WatchFloor operations: Grafana, Kibana, Splunk, CloudWatch, or similar tools, with dashboard monitoring, alert triage, log review, incident escalation, and shift turnover support.
  • Dataflow and application support: Apache NiFi, Cribl, Kafka, Logstash, or similar pipeline tools, with experience monitoring application health, failed jobs, queues, data movement, and ingestion issues.
  • DevOps: Terraform, Ansible, GitLab Pipelines, or Docker.
  • Preferred qualifications (the posting labels these as preferred):
  • All experience and education must be in a technical field directly related to the labor category being proposed, and all diplomas, GED certificates, and degrees must come from accredited institutions.
  • 10 years of experience and a High School Diploma or GED.
  • 8 years of experience and an Associate's Degree.
  • 6 years of experience and a Bachelor's Degree.
  • 4 years of experience and a Master's Degree.
  • 2 years of experience and a Doctorate's Degree.

Conditions

The proposed salary range is $86,600 - $181,800.
