Android Engineer II ( 12 Month Fixed Term Contract)

Android Engineer II on a 12 month fixed term contract with the EU Engineering team in London.

The team is hiring an Android engineer to strengthen the infrastructure behind an app used by millions of diners worldwide.

The app is built on a large Kotlin codebase. You would help improve its foundations and set the technical direction for new data integrations and architecture, working across teams on the Android side of marketing technology, including attribution and deep linking.

The aim is reliable, fast experiences that bring diners back and help restaurants do well.

The company is part of Booking Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: BKNG). It has 25+ years of experience and works with 70,000+ restaurant partners. Its technology helps restaurants focus on their team, guests and bottom line, and helps diners find and book the right place. You would join a global team within a portfolio of metasearch brands.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical roadmap for new data integrations, app architecture and scaling work.
• Improve the core Android app architecture so the codebase stays maintainable, scalable and current.
• Build, run and tune marketing technology integrations, including attribution SDKs, measurement tools and deep linking.
• Raise reliability, performance and testability, and simplify the most complex areas of the codebase.
• Use data and diagnostics to find problems, check that technical changes work, and improve the experience for end users and developers.
• Share engineering knowledge and help set good practice across several squads.

Requirements

• At least 3 years building and maintaining scalable, modern, high-performance Android apps.
• A record of improving the architecture of an established Android app.
• Strong Kotlin skills, with a focus on maintainable code, testing, reliability and performance.
• Hands-on work with mobile analytics or attribution integrations, such as Firebase or attribution SDKs.
• Able to work well with engineering, marketing and data colleagues and explain technical decisions clearly.
• Preferred: experience across Android apps and the backend services behind them, including server-side Java.
• Preferred: a passion for improving developer experience, infrastructure and internal tooling.
• Preferred: familiarity with creating and contributing to shared Android infrastructure.
• Preferred: a clear drive to keep refining the end-user experience using data-driven insights.

Conditions

Contract: 12 month fixed term.

Location: London, with the EU Engineering team. Hybrid work model.

Your hours span several time zones. Most work falls in normal business hours, but you may need to handle calls, Slack messages or emails outside them to work with international colleagues, restaurant partners or urgent issues. Local laws and regulations are always respected.
