Description

The company is a medical technology business with more than 72,000 staff in over 70 countries.

The Neuroclinical AI group works inside the Digital Technology & Innovation team in Princeton, NJ, which builds AI and digital tools for healthcare.

As an AI/ML Scientist you will build algorithms and models that guide neurovascular procedures, from planning through live navigation in the angiography suite. The main clinical focus is acute ischemic stroke and intracranial aneurysm treatment, with other neurointerventional procedures also in scope.

You will partner with clinicians, imaging scientists and product teams to turn procedure needs into real-time AI, covering modeling, validation and rollout in a regulated medical device setting.

Responsibilities

  • Build real-time AI that finds and follows devices such as guidewires, microcatheters, stent retrievers, coils and flow diverters in live fluoroscopy and angiography.
  • Create 2D/3D fusion and registration methods that overlay pre-procedure and intra-procedure 3D scans (CTA, MRA, 3D rotational angiography) and planning data such as vessel centerlines, aneurysm geometry and target landmarks onto the live 2D view.
  • Develop foundation models for neurovascular imaging, then distill them into compact models fast enough for clinical hardware.
  • Build digital twins and simulators of vessel anatomy, device behavior and X-ray image formation, for synthetic data and for training and testing device navigation agents.
  • Turn clinical workflow needs into data, annotation and model performance requirements.
  • Validate algorithms and assess them statistically for accuracy, robustness and latency under realistic procedure conditions.
  • Coordinate data collection, annotation, model work and validation across each project, often while running several projects at once.
  • Help generate IP and write peer-reviewed papers with clinical and technical colleagues.
  • Propose and lead new AI/ML initiatives in image-guided neurointervention.
  • Keep up with the field, including state-of-the-art methods and high-performance computing architectures.

Requirements

  • A master's (MS) or PhD in computer science, electrical or biomedical engineering, robotics or a related field.
  • 2 to 5 years of AI/ML development in industry or academia.
  • Working knowledge of Python and PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Hands-on experience building and validating machine learning models for medical imaging or computer vision.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both engineers and clinicians.
  • Preferred: experience with X-ray fluoroscopy, angiography or cone-beam CT, ideally in neurovascular or other interventional work.
  • Preferred: experience with real-time detection, segmentation or tracking, especially of thin or low-contrast structures in image sequences.
  • Preferred: experience with 2D/3D registration, multimodal image fusion or 3D vascular modeling, such as vessel segmentation and centerline extraction.
  • Preferred: experience with large-scale self-supervised pretraining or foundation models, and with efficient deployment such as knowledge distillation, quantization and optimized inference (e.g., TensorRT, ONNX).
  • Preferred: experience with simulation, digital twins or synthetic data generation, such as digitally reconstructed radiographs or physics-based device or blood-flow simulation.
  • Preferred: experience with reinforcement learning, imitation learning or robotic navigation, especially for assisted catheter and guidewire navigation.
  • Preferred: familiarity with stroke and aneurysm procedures such as mechanical thrombectomy, endovascular coiling and flow diversion.
  • Preferred: publications in venues such as MICCAI, IPCAI, IEEE TMI, Medical Image Analysis, CVPR or NeurIPS.

Conditions

The base pay range is $132,500 to $182,182.

Starting pay within that range depends on factors such as geography or market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications.

If the role is commission eligible, commissions follow the company plan and depend on individual and/or company performance.

You must be able to work with controlled technology under US export control law.

The company is an equal opportunity employer and provides reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities.

Benefits

  • Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements.
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Life insurance, plus long-term and short-term disability insurance.
  • Paid parking or public transportation.
  • Paid time off and paid sick and safe time.
