AI/ML/Data Science Intern

This summer role sits on the Computer Vision team, which develops advanced AI methods that interpret medical images and video.

You will pull insights from endoscopy and ultrasound video, X-rays, skin images, retinal OCT scans and histopathology slides, and help build foundation and multimodal models that work across these data types.

The work aims to improve the efficacy and efficiency of clinical trials.

Responsibilities

• Plan and run interviews with internal clinical staff to learn their needs and use cases for AI tools on medical imaging and video.
• Join cross-functional interviews, lead the discussion, ask follow-up questions, and write the answers up as briefing reports.
• Mine the briefing reports for the business value of AI pipelines across therapeutic areas.
• Design, build and assess computer vision and multimodal models using medical imaging and video data.
• Explain complex methods and results clearly to varied audiences and partners so they can make decisions.

Requirements

• Required: an ongoing Master's or PhD in a quantitative field such as physics, mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering or a similar discipline.
• Required: proven research in computer vision and hands-on use of its techniques, such as Transformers, CNNs, RNNs or GANs.
• Required: demonstrated work with current image or video methods, such as foundation models or transformers.
• Required: coding skill in Python or C++.
• Required: deep experience with classical computer vision tools and tasks, including OpenCV, object detection, edge detection and image segmentation.
• Required: experience with machine learning algorithms such as random forest, SVM, boosting and neural networks.
• Required: a strong publication record and the ability to communicate technical work to broad audiences.
• Preferred: experience with medical imaging or video such as endoscopy, ultrasound, X-ray, dermatology imaging, retinal OCT or histopathology.
• Preferred: experience with foundation models or multimodal AI.
• Preferred: familiarity with drug discovery and clinical development processes.
• Preferred: experience working closely with healthcare professionals.

Conditions

Summer internship with a target start date of 1 March 2027, lasting 6 months.

Career program role, listed as a non-LDP intern or co-op position.
