Description

The role is to design, build and improve software that gives the business, the platform and the technology teams the capabilities they need, using a range of engineering methods.

You will join the Technology Developer programme, a 10 week summer internship in London where you work on live projects and take on real responsibility.

The company is a global financial firm, and the team builds and maintains systems used across the business for clients and customers.

The internship sits within a one year targeted fast-track expert programme, starting with job-specific training so you build specialist technical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test and maintain high-quality software with mainstream languages, frameworks and tools, writing code that scales, is easy to maintain and performs well.
  • Work with product managers, designers and other engineers to pin down requirements, choose solution approaches and make sure new work fits the business goals.
  • Review colleagues' code, share what you learn, and help raise the standard of code quality across the team.
  • Follow secure coding practices to prevent vulnerabilities and protect sensitive data.
  • Write unit tests that show your code is well designed, readable and reliable.
  • Solve complex problems for clients and customers, working with technologies such as Java, C++, C, Python, SQL, JavaScript/TypeScript, containers, DevOps, cloud, machine learning, scripting and real-time systems.
  • Where the role includes leadership, lead and supervise a team: support people's development, assign work and coordinate team resources, and set a clear example in line with the company's LEAD behaviours: Listen and be authentic, Energise and inspire, Align across the enterprise, Develop others.
  • Where the role is an individual contributor role, deepen your technical expertise and advise others where appropriate.
  • Escalate policy or procedure breaches appropriately, and help embed new policies or procedures brought in to manage risk.
  • Manage risk and strengthen controls for the work you own or contribute to, and deliver in line with relevant rules, regulations and codes of conduct.
  • Understand how your area fits into the wider function and how the teams around you help meet the organisation's objectives.
  • Make sound judgements from factual information, paying close attention to detail, and solve problems using your technical experience and existing precedents.
  • Share complex or sensitive information clearly, and act as a point of contact for stakeholders outside your immediate function.

Requirements

  • You are in your penultimate year of university and will graduate in 2028.
  • You have a genuine interest in technology, strong problem-solving skills and the drive to deliver new solutions.
  • You are expected to uphold the company's values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence and Stewardship, and its mindset to Empower, Challenge and Drive.
  • If you need a visa sponsored to work in the UK, you can still apply. The company will sponsor a skilled worker visa if you meet the Home Office criteria.
  • If you do not qualify for a skilled worker visa, you must already have the legal right to work in the UK full time from June 2027 to August 2027.

Conditions

The internship runs for 10 weeks, from June 2027 to August 2027, and is full time.

The role is based in London at the Canary Wharf hub, the company's global headquarters, in the financial district.

If you receive a return offer to the graduate programme, you will stay in the same location you worked in during the internship.

Applications close on 27 November 2026, but the vacancy may close earlier because of high application numbers, so apply as soon as you can.

Benefits

  • Full support throughout the internship, meaningful work, and the chance to build lasting connections across the business.
  • Job-based training from the first day of the expert programme.
