2027 Summer Intern, AI/ML Engineer, Mapping (PhD)

Description

The production mapping group builds mapping software for autonomous and driver-assistance features at the company, delivering integrated and tested code for several vehicle features.

This summer internship is with the map crowdsourcing and enhancements team, based in Warren, Michigan. You will use machine learning, algorithms, large-scale data processing and cloud computing to solve mapping problems.

Work spans the full cycle: studying vehicle data, building models or algorithms, creating scalable data pipelines, deploying solutions and measuring how well they perform. Focus areas may include machine learning, geospatial analytics, distributed data processing, workflow automation and cloud software development.

Responsibilities

• Build, deploy and tune models and algorithms in cloud compute environments such as Azure Databricks and Google Cloud Platform.
• Write Python or PySpark scripts that run data workflows.
• Study large datasets to find trends and patterns.
• Show complex findings through data visualizations.
• Write and keep up technical documentation.
• Take part in training and skills development.

Requirements

• You are currently enrolled full-time in a degree-seeking program and working toward a PhD in computer science or a related field.
• You can work full-time, 40 hours per week.
• You have strong Python skills and experience with machine learning libraries such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• You have worked with cloud environments and data platforms such as Microsoft Azure, Azure Databricks and Google Cloud Platform.
• You can demonstrate working knowledge of statistical modeling and machine learning frameworks and tools.
• Preferred: you have experience with geospatial data and analytics.
• Preferred: you intend to return to your degree program after the internship.
• Preferred: you are expected to graduate between December 2027 and June 2028.

Conditions

The monthly salary range is $12,300 per month.

Eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program receive a one-time lump sum stipend, which is taxable.
