Description

You will help strengthen the security posture of a growing alternative investments firm as a governance, risk and compliance (GRC) intern over the summer.

The role suits someone curious and analytical who enjoys working with others, solving problems, making complicated information clear, and seeing how cybersecurity supports the business.

You will work with the Cybersecurity & Risk team on governance, risk assessments, compliance and security improvement projects, gaining practical experience as you go.

Your work includes turning technical requirements into plain guidance, tracking emerging risks and regulations, and working with technology and business colleagues to reduce risk.

The team oversees the company's cybersecurity, risk management, change management, business continuity and disaster recovery programs. It sets priorities using Agile methods and works closely with technology teams and other departments.

The company is an alternative asset manager with about $97 billion in assets under management across private equity, infrastructure, real estate, credit and absolute return strategies. It has specialized in alternatives for more than 54 years and has a team of about 560 professionals. Its headquarters is in Chicago, with offices in New York, Toronto, London, Frankfurt, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Seoul and Sydney.

Responsibilities

  • Review, update and simplify cybersecurity policies, standards, procedures and controls so they match NIST CSF and CIS Controls, using clear writing and analysis.
  • Help with security assessments, vendor reviews, client due diligence, collection of audit evidence and tracking of remediation work.
  • Find and build AI-based tools that automate manual GRC oversight, simplify workflows and make operations more efficient.
  • Look into new cybersecurity threats, regulatory changes and industry best practices, then turn what you find into clear, actionable advice.
  • Work with technical and business colleagues to understand their problems, pin down requirements and deliver process improvements, building project management, communication and stakeholder skills along the way.

Requirements

  • You are working toward a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field, with a graduation date between December 2027 and Spring 2028.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • You can use Microsoft Excel, Word and Visio well.
  • You are a team player who starts work without prompting and thinks independently.
  • You pay close attention to detail and accuracy at every level.
  • You adjust well when conditions change quickly.
  • You can gather and analyze information, reach conclusions, define problems and propose solutions.
  • You work well alone and within a group.
  • You communicate clearly.
  • You are interested in cybersecurity and in learning the CIS Framework.
  • Interest in financial services or investment management is a plus.
  • Security certifications are a plus.

Conditions

The internship lasts 10 weeks over the summer and is based in the Chicago office on a hybrid schedule, with in-office days required Tuesday through Thursday.

Interns are short-term and do not receive company-sponsored benefits, including health insurance, paid time off or the 401(k) plan.

The company does not offer employer visa sponsorship now or later, including H-1B, TN or other employer-based visas. You must already hold US work authorization that does not depend on employer sponsorship, both now and later. Applicants who will need sponsorship to keep working, such as after F-1 OPT or CPT or on J-1 status, are not eligible.

The Chicago annual base pay range is $70,000 to $75,000 USD. Actual base salary depends on factors such as experience, skills and qualifications for the role.

Benefits

  • You may be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual, team and company performance.
  • Eligible employees can choose medical, dental, vision and life coverage, flexible spending accounts and the retirement plan, and receive paid time off, parental leave, short- and long-term disability and wellness programs. These do not apply to interns.
