Description

About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

the company's site is one of our most important tools. It's where homeowners learn about Base, decide whether they trust us, and ultimately become members.

We're looking for a Web Designer to own and evolve that experience. You'll design and build web experiences that look great, communicate clearly, and drive growth. You'll work closely with Growth, Marketing, and Engineering while bringing your own point of view on how the site should look, feel, and perform.

We're a small team that moves quickly. You don't need to be a traditional frontend engineer, but you should be comfortable using AI-assisted tools to independently turn ideas into live experiences.

The Growth team is responsible for turning interest in Base into action. the company's site is our most important acquisition surface, the place where a homeowner decides whether to trust us with their power. Our challenges are concrete: we’re explaining a new category of product in a market full of noise, and every word and interaction on the site either earns that trust or loses it. The decisions you make here will show up directly in sign-ups, cost-per-acquisition, and the quality of members we bring on.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

Our Values

First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and ongoing evolution of the company's site , from landing pages and product launches to improvements across the existing site.
  • Design and build web experiences that balance exceptional visual craft, clear storytelling, and conversion.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools to independently implement designs, prototype ideas, and ship improvements.
  • Maintain and evolve our web design system, creating reusable components that help us move faster without sacrificing quality.
  • Work with Growth and Marketing to shape content, test ideas, and iterate based on performance and user feedback.
  • Ensure a high-quality experience across devices, considering accessibility, SEO, and performance.
  • What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in web or digital design, with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional visual craft.
  • Strong fundamentals in typography, layout, interaction, and responsive design, with an understanding of how design influences usability and conversion.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to turn designs into working experiences. You don't need to write everything from scratch, but you should be able to build and ship independently.
  • Experience working with design systems and creating reusable components.
  • Strong proficiency in Figma, good writing instincts, and a willingness to learn new tools.
  • A high degree of ownership and resourcefulness. You can take an idea from concept to launch without constant direction.
